Eligible ComEd Customers Encouraged to Participate in Energy Efficiency Program
ComEd’s Whole Home Electric program can help eligible customers make their homes more energy efficient, comfortable, and affordable. The program provides high-performance electric heating, cooling, and appliance upgrades that can replace older or inefficient systems—whether they currently operate on natural gas, propane, or electricity.
For eligible single-family customers, there is no cost to participate, and qualifying improvements may be provided at little or no cost. Program representatives can help determine which improvements your home may qualify for.
Benefits of Whole Home Electric
Upgrading your home’s heating, cooling, and appliances can provide several benefits:
- Lower energy costs: High-efficiency electric systems can reduce the amount of energy your home uses and may reduce or even eliminate your gas or propane costs.
- Use less energy: Modern heat pumps and ENERGY STAR® electric appliances can provide the same essential functions while using significantly less energy than older equipment.
- Improve comfort: High-performance heating and cooling systems can provide more consistent temperatures throughout your home while operating quietly and reliably.
- Breathe cleaner air: Electric systems can help reduce indoor and outdoor air pollution, creating a healthier home environment while supporting a cleaner energy future.
Available Home Improvements
Eligible customers may receive energy-efficiency improvements at no cost, including:
Air Source Heat Pumps
An air source heat pump can provide both heating and cooling for your home. In the summer, it works much like an air conditioner by moving heat from inside your home to the outdoors. In the winter, it reverses the process, extracting heat from the outdoor air—even when temperatures are cold—and moving that heat into your home.
Heat Pump Water Heaters
Heat pump water heaters use a highly efficient process to heat your home's water. Rather than generating heat directly, they pull heat from the surrounding air and transfer it to the water. This can use substantially less energy than traditional water-heating systems.
Traditional ENERGY STAR® electric water heaters may also be available through the program.
Induction or Electric Stoves
Induction cooking uses an electromagnetic field to transfer heat directly to your cookware, allowing food to cook quickly and giving you precise temperature control. Induction cooktops are nearly three times more efficient than gas cooktops and about 10% more efficient than standard electric cooktops.
Because induction cooking heats the cookware rather than the surrounding burner, it can also be easier to clean and may provide additional kitchen safety benefits.
Electric or Heat Pump Clothes Dryers
ENERGY STAR® certified heat pump dryers use approximately 70% less energy than conventional dryers. They recycle warm air through a closed-loop system rather than venting heated air outdoors, allowing clothes to dry efficiently while using less energy.
Many heat pump dryers are also ventless, which can make installation easier while reducing maintenance needs and fire risk. Traditional ENERGY STAR® electric clothes dryers may also be available.
Who Can Apply?
Single-Family Homes
ComEd customers who live in single-family homes may qualify for Whole Home Electric if they meet the program's eligibility requirements, including household income requirements.
Multi-Family Property Owners
Public Housing Authorities and owners of multi-family buildings with three or more units may also qualify if the property is located in an eligible census tract or meets other qualifying criteria. Building owners may be required to contribute toward the cost of certain improvements.
Income Requirements
For many applicants, eligibility is based on household income. Total household income must generally be at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Additional eligibility requirements and restrictions may apply.
If you do not meet the requirements for Whole Home Electric, you may still qualify for other ComEd energy-efficiency programs and offerings.

After completing the initial screening process, eligible customers may be scheduled for a home assessment. The assessment will help identify potential energy-efficiency improvements for your home.
