Why Does The Ordinance Exist?
The Village's waste container ordinance helps maintain clean, attractive neighborhoods while reducing visual clutter, preventing nuisance conditions, and ensuring garbage containers do not negatively impact neighboring properties. These standards help preserve property values and contribute to the overall appearance of our community.
This ordinance is not new. Requirements regulating garbage container placement have existed in the Village Code since 1987. Over the years, the ordinance has been updated to provide clearer language and better illustrations, making it easier for residents to understand where containers may and may not be stored.

Placement Rules
1. Keep Containers Beside or Behind Your Home
Garbage containers may not be stored between the front of your home and the primary street.
2. Store Containers Against a Structure
Containers should be stored directly against your home, garage, or approved accessory structure.
3. Keep Containers Off Grass
Containers must be stored on:
- Concrete
- Asphalt
- Pavers
- Decorative stone
- Landscape mulch
4. Do Not Block Garage Doors
Containers cannot be stored in front of garage doors.
Approved Screening Options
Screening may be required to fully conceal waste containers from public view. Acceptable screening methods include fencing, landscaping, planter boxes, or custom-built enclosures.
