Informal gatherings held quarterly at the Community Center give residents an opportunity to meet with the Mayor and other Village officials to share their comments and concerns.
This is our annual clean-up day held on the second Saturday in May. Volunteers of all ages are grouped into teams with Village officials and fan out across the Village to do Spring Cleaning along roadways, riverbanks and in the parks. Coffee and donuts are served in the morning and lunch is served at the Community Center.
Celebrate Arbor Day with a ceremonial planting of a tree. Second
Saturday in May, just before Take A Bite Out of Grime.
This annual breakfast is sponsored by the South Holland
Ministerial Association. First Thursday in May.
Junior High students chair the second Village Board meeting in May.
Annual parade honoring our military personnel who have made
the ultimate sacrifice travels down South Park Avenue. Begins at 11:00am at 170th Street and ends at Veterans Park, concluding with a
Remembrance Ceremony at the Park.
Our very own Municipal Band performs a series of summer concerts, kicking off at the Memorial Day celebration and concluding at the Heritage Festival. The concerts are usually held at the bandstand at Veterans Park on Thursday evenings.
July 4th Celebration begins at 10am and includes a Rib Fest
Contest at Veterans Park with a full day of fun, food, and games
for ALL AGES. Celebration concludes with a stunning fireworks
display at dusk.
Jam-packed, five-day, annual festival held over labor day weekend includes a Car Show, Bocce Tournament, huge Block Party, Gallery of Art, and praise and worship service.
On the last Thursday in October, this annual event features costume judging, candy bags, games for children and pumpkin decorating. This event is open to South Holland residents only.
On the first Friday evening in December, Santa arrives at the Faith Family Future Center in a bright red fire truck. Each child gets a chance to sit on Santa's lap and leaves with a bag of treats. A great chance to snap that special photo.
Each year in October, the Village coordinates Diversity Dinners
to foster positive discussions between people with different
backgrounds. This helps members of the community get to know
one another in a positive setting. This communication leads to
lasting relationships with neighbors, the formation of neighborhood
associations, and the establishment of community groups. These
dinners help break down the barriers that can be found between
different ethnic groups.
Dinners are held in the homes of residents who sign up to be
a host. There are 8 - 10 people at each home. Dinners vary from
casual to formal depending on the host. There is no agenda. It’s
just about knitting the hearts of the community together. As one
resident said, “We arrived as guests and left as family.”
If you would like to host or attend one of the next Diversity Dinners, call 210-2918 or send an email to mthornton@southholland.org.
