The Mayor, Village Board and Administration have been working diligently for many months on a major plan to redevelop South Holland's old downtown area and bring exciting new growth to the community. This master plan for redevelopment is ready to be unveiled!
South Holland’s new TOWN CENTER will include signature shopping, owner occupied single family residential units with tranquil garden courtyards and entry gate features, beautiful landscaping, attractively designed office/retail buildings, sufficient parking, as well as a variety of services to an area that will support the proposed Metra Railroad station.
"It’s one of the most important moves we’re making," beamed Mayor Don A. De Graff. It’s a move that is assisted by Town Center Project Director, Ralph Edgar and architect Chuck Smith of Arete’ 3 Ltd. Design Group.
Also included in the plan are street reconfigurations designed to ease traffic flow in the new Town Center area. In addition to a traffic signal at Wausau Avenue and Route 6, Wausau will be pushed through to 161st Street. The preliminary concept plan shows the new street lined with multi-story retail/residential units, making it very convenient to shop, conduct municipal business or catch the Metra train.
South Park Avenue will be made more attractive with new facades and some new edifices. New businesses will be recruited to complement existing business and to increase sales and pedestrian traffic, providing an urban downtown feel.
"It will bring an urban lifestyle to the suburbs – a place where people will want to be and be seen,” said architect, Chuck Smith.
South Holland, once again on the cutting edge of economic development and continued growth!
