INVESTIGATIVE DIVISION

The Investigative Division is made up of 1 Detective Sergeant, 3 Detectives, a DEA Agent, a Student Resource Officer, and 2 Special Operation Officers.

The Investigative Division handles all criminal and juvenile investigations, as well as providing crime prevention tips.

The Investigative Division encourages you to either call, write or e-mail us with information or questions on any of the above programs.

We also have an officer assigned to Thornwood High School as a School Resource Officer. He handles all police matters that occur at the high school and is a liason between the police department and the high school.

PATROL DIVISION

The patrol division has 3 Lieutenants, 3 Sergeants and 28 patrol officers. There also are traffic officers who work with the patrol division. The patrol division's functions are to handle all calls for service, traffic duties, and to actively patrol the streets. Another service that is provided by the patrol division is paramedic/EMT services. There are 2 officers that are certified paramedics and 25 certified EMTs in the patrol division.

TRAFFIC UNIT

The traffic officer's duties are to enforce all traffic laws, handle accidents, and is on-call to respond to major accidents.

On March 1, 1999, the South Holland Police Department in conjunction with the citizens of the Village of South Holland started implementation of Community Assisted Radar Enforcement (C.A.R.E.).

Neighborhood traffic problems include vehicles speeding down side streets, vehicles disobeying stop signs in neighborhoods and vehicles disregarding school zone speed limits. With that in mind we focus the C.A.R.E. program on those violations. It is not possible for police officers to show presence at all of these locations, therefore the citizens involved in the C.A.R.E. program will assist in lessening these problems in their neighborhoods by being an authorized extra set of eyes to watch for violations.

The C.A.R.E. volunteers will use their own vehicle while using radar and the volunteer's vehicle will be marked by a magnetic sign. Once a violation is noted by the C.A.R.E. volunteer, the volunteer will note the license plate number and car description. The information will be given to the South Holland Police Department and a warning letter will be sent to the vehicle owner.

If you have a complaint about the traffic in your neighborhood or you have any questions, please contact Deputy Chief Hollis Dorrough by email at hdorrough@southholland.org.

BICYCLE PATROL

The Bicycle Unit was started in the Spring of 1998 as part of the South Holland Police Department's Community Policing Program. It is currently made up of one team leader, and 4 patrol officers. Utilizing specially designed Trek mountain bikes, the Bicycle Unit is in operation 3 seasons out of the year and has been very successful.
