Definition:
An organization-wide philosophy and management approach that promotes community, government and police
partnerships proactive problem-solving; and community engagement to address the causes of crime, fear of crime, and other related
community issues.
Goal:
Solve problems and improve relations with citizens.
Line Function:
Regular, friendly contact between officers and citizens.
- A department-wide philosophy and department-wide acceptance.
- Internal and external influence and respect for officers.
- Officers have a well-defined role, conduct both proactive and reactive policing (full service officers).
Direct Service:
Same officer takes complaints and gives crime prevention tips.
- Citizens identify problems and help in setting up the police agenda.
- Police accountability is ensured by the citizens receiving the service, in addition to administrative safeguards.
- The officer is the leader and catalyst for change in the neighborhood to reduce fear, disorder, decay, and crime.
- The Chief of Police is an advocate and sets the tone for the delivery of both law enforcement and social services within the
jurisdiction.
- Officers educate the public about issues (like response time or preventive patrol) and the need to prioritize services.
Accomplishment:
Increased trust between the police officer and citizens results in an enhanced flow of information
to the police.

The Community Policing Initiative for our Village allows the community and Police Department to work together to keep our crime rate low and to improve the quality of life for our customers. This interaction of information sharing benefits our entire community. These monthly meetings are from 7-8:30pm.
The areas are:
Village North - If you are north of Rt. 6 your group will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at the South Holland Library (16250 Wausau Avenue) at 7:00pm.
Village South – If you are east of the Bishop Ford Expressway and south of Rt. 6 or if you are south of Rt. 6 and west of the railroad tracks, you will meet on the 4th Monday of every month at the Community Center (501 E 170th Street) at 7:00pm.
Village Central - If you are south of Rt. 6, west of the Bishop Ford Expressway and east of the railroad tracks, you will meet on the 1st Monday of every month at the Community Center (501 E 170th Street) at 7:00pm.
