About Us:

The South Holland Fire Department consists of 44 members: 24 are full-time, and 20 are part-time. These employees staff 2 stations 24 hours a day. The department serves approximately 10 square miles with 4 Engines, 1-110' Ladder Truck, 1 heavy rescue, 3 ALS ambulances, 1 hazardous materials vehicle, 1 pickup truck, 1 suburban and 4 cars. While firefighting is a priority, so are medical emergencies. The South Holland Fire Department has 22 certified Paramedics. During 2006, the department responded to 2,214 Emergency Medical Calls.

Public Education is another area of the department. Some of the programs are Learn Not to Burn, which is conducted in all of the Village schools, fire extinguisher training, assisting health care facilities in planning evacuations, and CPR training.  During 2006, the department conducted 173 Public Education events, which are in addition to Village-wide events (i.e. Block Parties, Memorial Day Parade, 4th of July, Heritage Festival, Parade of Lights, etc).

The department also maintains a Fire Prevention Division.  Regular fire inspections are conducted at all commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities within the Village.  During 2006, the department conducted 2,455 fire inspections and cited 3,211 fire code violations.

In addition to our Fire Prevention Bureau, other areas that our members specialize in are: (but not limited to) Technical Rescue Team which include High Angle Rescue, Confined Space Rescue and Trench Rescue, Dive Team, and Hazardous Materials Team.

The Fire Department has a Cadet program for individuals 17-21 years of age. They participate in all non-fire exposure training and can help out on the periphery at a fire scene. If they successfully attend the fire academy, have 1 year on the Department, and are 18 years of age or older, the Department can transfer them to the part-time firefighter ranks.
