Statement regarding the availability of the "on demand" cable programming
The Village of South Holland has always worked aggressively to bring out residents the best available services, and cable television programming is no exception. When many communities had none, or only one cable company option, South Holland proactively sought to bring in competition to help keep prices in check and ensure good customer service.
In keeping with the prevailing community standards and the long established values associated with our motto of Faith, Family, and Future, which date back to the inception of the community more than 100 years ago and continue strongly to this day, the Village has franchise agreements that protect those standards and values. As a community, we have continually supported these values and this is long established by the courts as a proper and fitting role of a municipality. As a result, the franchise agreements that South Holland has with both WOW! and Comcast specifically restrict the delivery of "obscene" programming (i.e. adult oriented sexually explicit material), as permitted and defined by the Supreme Court of the United States.
New features and technologies that improve service to our residents and enhance their television viewing are strongly encouraged by the Village. It is necessary however, that such developments comply with the franchise agreements that are in place.
We are pleased to report that as of March 20, 2007, Wide Open West (WOW!) has
made their "on-demand" product, called Video On Demand, available to ALL South Holland
residents. Importantly, it complies with the franchise agreement.

The Village has met recently with and continues to urge Comcast to deliver their On Demand service to out residents. Comcast has indicated that they are working on a technology solution that will enable them to offer their On Demand service in a way that complies with the franchise agreement. It is our hope that this service becomes available as soon as possible.
The Village of South Holland is committed to upholding the long held prevailing community standards and values which make us who we are as a community. It is clear that our residents and businesses have for many years held firmly their conviction that South Holland is a distinctive community and that was and is a primary determining factor in their decision to live and work here.
