based on the June 16, 2008 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


South Holland Finest Honored for Heroic Actions

Mayor Don De Graff and the Village Board commended Police Officers Rick Anthony, Paul Morache, and Tim Lareau for their acts of bravery during a recent fire at a resident's home. The three officers worked together to rescue an unconcious 65-year-old man from the burning house. Officers Anthony, Morache, and Lareau each received a Civic Award from Fire Chief Randy Stegenga and the Award of Valor from Police Chief Warren Millsaps.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett reported the following:

A new John Deere "Gator" utility vehicle has been delivered to Veterans Park, and will be used by staff to maintain ball fields, landscaping and for trash pick-up.

Summer Day Camp, which is serving over 200 children this year, enjoyed a smooth start last week, culminating with a field trip to Lynwood Roller Rink on Friday, June 13.

Summer swim programs began last Saturday, with more than 600 children participating.

Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced the following community activities:

South Holland/Thornton Garden Walk - Saturday, June 28, 10:00am - 2:00pm. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at Village Hall.

Rib Fest Cook-off - Friday, July 4 at Veterans Park beginning at 9:00am. Registration forms are available at Village Hall and online at www.southholland.org.

Independence Day Celebration - Friday, July 4 at Veterans Park beginning at 9:00am. In addition to the Rib Fest, activities will include a trackless train, face painting and balloons, fun inflatable jumps for kids, olympic-style games for the whole family, great music concerts, delicious food available for purchase at Park Central concession and the best fireworks in the Chicago Southland region. Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2008-0496 through 2008-0576, 81 permits representing $329,472 of investment in the community. Trustee DeYoung announced that these permits include a concrete ramp and pad for Rupari Foods.

Other Notables:

Pastor Heino Blaauw of Peace Christian Reformed Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved the Motor Fuel Tax resolution to use $706,000 for general street maintenance and road construction.

The Board approved an annual prevailing wage ordinance, which requires contractors performing work in South Holland to pay the prevailing wage.

The Board approved a plat of vacation and dedication for Ed Miniat, Inc. to move the Wallace Avenue cul-de-sac approximately 190 feet to the north.

The Board approved an ordinance to amend fencing specifications, which allows for the installation of solid fences in the Village.
