based on the June 2, 2008 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday, June 16, 2008 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Netherlands Flag Presentation

South Holland resident Lyda Meyer presented Village President Don A. De Graff with a flag from the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. Mrs. Meyer previously presented a Village of South Holland flag to the province of South Holland in the Netherlands, her native country.

Residents Honored with Civic Awards

Timothy Stiff and Curtis Cross were honored by the Village Board and Police Department for their honorable and heroic actions.

Stiff was presented a civic award for saving the life of Deborah Carter whose car was stuck on the railroad crossing at 168th Street. Mr. Stiff pulled Ms. Carter from her vehicle just seconds before a train struck the vehicle.

Curtis Cross, a South Holland resident and employee, was honored with a civic award due to his heroic and conscientious effort and quick action that led to the apprehension of criminals in an important investigation.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett reported the following:

Registration for summer programs will continue at the Community Center during normal business hours. The schedule of programs is available online on the Village's website, www.southholland.org and at the Community Center.

New playground equipment for toddlers has been installed at Veterans Park and is available for use. Additional safety ground mulch will be added in the near future.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2008-0440 through 2008-0495, 56 permits representing $246,371 of investment in the community. These permits include an emergency backup generator for the South Holland Public Library.

Other Notables:

Village President Don A. De Graff opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved the purchase of property located at 16100 Wausau Avenue for the further redevelopment of Town Center.

The Board approved a Class 8 resolution for Ed Miniat, Inc. to build an 11,000 square foot addition that will allow for the company to relocate its headquarters from Homewood to South Holland. The addition will also accommodate a new culinary center.

The Board approved an ordinance providing for a 5 ton weight restriction on 173rd Street between South Park Avenue and State Street, as recommended by the Police Department.

The Board approved Register No. 615 for $429,572.83, No. 616 for $1,251,392.87, and No. 617 for $110,614.75, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
