Village Board,
based on the May 5, 2008 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday, May 19, 2008 at 7:00PM at the Community Center.
National Champion Cheerleading Team
The Board approved a resolution honoring the Thornwood High School Varsity Cheerleading Team for capturing their fifth national championship during the 2008 Walt Disney Contest of Champions National Cheerleading Competition. The team presented a brief performance, and was recognized for their outstanding performance and community leadership.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn made the following announcements:
Take a Bite Out Of Grime - Saturday, May 10, 8:30am at the Community Center, 501 E 170th Street. Residents are encouraged to come out to help with this annual Village clean-up day. It's a great opportunity to teach our children the importance on being good citizens.
Student Government Day - Monday, May 19, 2008, 7:00pm at the Community Center. Students representing Calvary Academy, Calvin Christian School, Christ Our Savior, Coolidge Middle School, and McKinley Junior High School will take the helm and conduct a mock Village Board meeting.
Mayor's Coffee - Tuesday, June 3, 7:30am at Village Hall.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett reported the following:
Summer Program registration is scheduled for South Holland residents only on May 29 at the Community Center. General registration is open to the public beginning May 30. The program schedule will be available soon on the Village's website, www.southholland.org and copies of the program booklet will be on hand at the Community Center beginning the week of May 12.
Park Maintenance staff is currently fertilizing Village parks.
Pre-School graduation at the Community Center is scheduled for May 8 and 9.
Sonia Vincent, Office Manager at the Community Center, is retiring after 30 years of service. Her last day is Friday, May 9.
New Volunteers Ready for Service
The Board approved the appointment of the following new committee/board members and commissioners:
William Green to the Police and Fire Commission; Vickie Perkins to the Communications Commission; Jamieson Clay and Jacqueline Franklin to the Economic Development Commission; Rich Zimmerman to the Fire Pension Board; Laura Hogan, Della Mayes, and Catherine Hunt-Webb to the Neighborhood Groups Organizing Committee; and Kimberly Abogunrin and Larry Lawrence to the Youth Commission.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits 2008-0280 through 2008-0350, 71 permits representing $499,775 of investment in the community. These permits include: new signage for Ralph Edgar Properties - the Brownstones at 100 Park Place; new signage for Truck-O-Mat; new signage for DDS Shoes, a new South Holland business; a security system for the Harris Bank branch at 44 W 162nd Street; and a new roof for Calvary Community Church.
Other Notables:
Pastor Willard High of Shephard's Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board presented a Peace Officers' Memorial Day Proclamation in honor of law enforcement officers.
The Board approved new terms for Village officials and the reappointment of many volunteers who serve on the various boards, commissions, and committees.
The Board approved a Class 8 Resolution for CMM Group, a construction management firm located at 1514 E 168th Street.
The Board approved Register No. 611 for $915,576.33 and No. 612 for $268,833.30, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
Trustee Chambers shared a letter of recognition commending firefighters/paramedics Dave De Graff and Daniel Krediet for delivery of outstanding service to residents on April 14.
