Information in this newsletter is intended only to highlight some of the activities of the Village Board,
based on the April 21, 2008 meeting.

Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn made the following announcements:

Mayor's Prayer Breakfast - Thursday, May 1, 7:30am at Spirit of God Fellowship Hall, 16350 State Street. This event is presented by the South Holland Ministerial Association, and will feature guest speaker Dr. Kamala Buckner, Superintendent of School District 205. Tickets are $7 each and are available at local churches, Calvary Bookstore (16125 South Park Avenue), or at the door.

Lions Pancake Day - Saturday, May 3, 6:30am to 1:00pm at the Community Center. Tickets are $5 per person and are available from Lions Club members or at the door. Children 4 and under eat free.

Take a Bite Out Of Grime - Saturday, May 10, 8:30am at the Community Center, 501 E 170th Street. This is our community's annual clean up day, which will include a complimentary breakfast and lunch for our volunteers. Registration is being taken at the Community Center, and residents may call 331-2940 to have their name added to the list.

South Holland Municipal Band will kickoff its summer concert season during the Memorial Day Parade held on Monday, May 26.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced:

The annual Memorial Day Parade is Monday, May 26, beginning at 11:00am. Anyone interested in participating in the parade should contact Lisa Wilson at the Community Center at 331-2940.

Summer Program registration is scheduled for May 29 - 31 at the Community Center. Additional information will be available on the Village's website, www.southholland.org beginning the week of May 5, and copies of the program book will be on hand at the Community Center beginning the week of May 12.

Groups of 30 or more interested in hosting a picnic or other event in a Village park are required to apply for a permit at the Community Center. To check available dates, contact Catherine at 331-2940. Permits are issued to South Holland residents only.

Finance

The Board approved register No. 610 for $1,023,737.90 covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Public Safety

Trustee Chambers announced the expansion of the Police Department's fleet of vehicles with the recent acquisition of a new Mobile Police Station, purchased with drug forfeiture funds.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2008-0211 through 2008-0279, 68 permits representing $360,157 of investment in the community. These permits include: signage for the new Harris Bank branch at 44 W 162nd Street, a new roof for Hugulet Corp, remodeling for Experience Fitness, and tenant signs for Multi-State Transmission.

Other Notables:

The Board approved the annual fund transfer resolution.

The Board approved a home rule ordinance for the Fire and Police Commission to allow for the hiring and promoting of officers and firefighters to be performed by the Police and Fire departments and an outside consultant.

The Board approved an ITEP grant resolution authorizing the Village to submit a grant application for a new bike path.

The Board approved a resolution authorizing execution of the Southeast Rail Intergovernmental Agreement.

The Board approved a Tax Increment Financing Inducement resolution for Raplh Edgar Properties for the remaining portion of the former Thomas Pontiac property at 901 E 162nd Street (vacant lot just west of BP).

The Board approved a Class 8 resolution for Calumet Carton to complete a 26,000 square foot expansion of its operation.

The Board approved a resolution authorizing the Village to sell a mobile radar speed sign trailer at the upcoming municipal auction facilitated by the South Suburban Mayors & Managers Association (SSMMA).
