based on the April 7, 2008 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn made the following announcements:

Mayor's Prayer Breakfast - Thursday, May 1, 2008, 7:30am at Spirit of God Fellowship Hall, 16350 State Street. This event is presented by the South Holland Ministerial Association, and will feature guest speaker Dr. Kamala Buckner, Superintendent of School District 205. Tickets are $7 each and are available at local churches, Calvary Bookstore (16125 South Park Avenue), or at the door.

Take a Bite Out Of Grime - Saturday, May 10, 2008, 8:30am at the Community Center, 501 E 170th Street. This is our community's annual clean up day, which will include a complimentary breakfast and lunch for our volunteers. Registration is being taken at the Community Center, and residents may call 331-2940 to have their name added to the list.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett made the following announcements:

Park Maintenance recently took delivery of a new 15-foot Woods Batwing Deck Mower. This new piece of equipment should cut mowing time by 20%.

The 4th Annual Talent Show / Poetry Contest will take place Friday, April 11, 7:00pm at the Community Center. Admission tickets are only $5 per person, and children under 5 are free. For additional information, call 331-2940.

On April 15, 2008, Ingalls Hospital will offer free blood pressure screenings from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Community Center lobby. Everyone is welcome.

On April 10, 2008, the Community Center will host a free Ingalls Hospital seminar on back pain at 5:00pm. Pre-registration is required by calling Ingalls at 800-221-2199.

On Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 10:00am, the Community Center will host an Arthritis Foundation seminar on yoga and arthritis. Pre-registration is required by calling 800-735-0096. This is a free program.

Volume Cap

The Board approved a resolution to cede $500,000 of the Village volume cap to the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) for its first time homebuyers program and over $1.3 Million to the Illinois Development Finance Authority (IFDA) for industrial and commercial developers. Village Attorney Tim Lapp explained that the money was not Village money, but would be bonded through the IHDA and the IFDA based on the steps taken by the Village to help residents and local merchants.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2008-0127 through 2008-0210, 83 permits representing $983,090 of investment in the community. These permits include: a new Harris Bank branch for Ralph Edgar Properties at 44 W 162nd Street, a new roof for Loubelle's Grooming, office addition and canopy for Popco, Inc. on Vincennes, and numerous residential roof and window replacements.

Other Notables:

The Board approved an E-Com Intergovernmental Agreement, granting permission for a new radio transmitter and antenna to be installed on the water tower located at 167th Street & Canal to handle 911 calls for Fire and Police.

The Board approved an amendment to the stray animal retention ordinance, reducing the number of days we have unclaimed animals in our possession from 5 days to 3 days.

The Board approved an amendment to the burglar and fire alarm permit ordinance. The amendment eliminates the annual renewal fee for residential permits, and reduces the annual renewal fee for business permits from $50 to $25.

The Board approved Register No. 608 for $688,935.84 and Register No. 609 for $641,393.73, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Public Works: Trustee James reported that as of April 1 our blue yard waste toters are to be used for yard waste only. Branch pick-up services are in effect and will automatically be provided the day after your regularly scheduled garbage pick-up day. Street sweeping has also resumed, with plans for our entire community to be swept 4-5 times this year.
