Information in this newsletter is intended only to highlight some of the activities of the Village Board,
based on the March 3, 2008 meeting.

Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced the following upcoming events:

Coffee with the Mayor: Tuesday March 18, 7:00pm at the Community Center, 501 E 170th Street. The neeting will begin with a special presentation: "A Year in Review", followed by a Flood Safety Awareness discussion, with participation from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Blood Drive: Monday, April 7 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Thorn Creek Church, 1875 E 170th Street.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett made the following announcements:

The annual Easter Egg Hunt for South Holland residents, ages 1 to 10, will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 10:00am at Veterans Park (rain or shine), 160th Place & South Park Avenue. You must be a South Holland resident to participate. Pre-registration is required with proof of residency. Residents are encouraged to sign up early as space is limited.

The 4th Annual Talent Show / Poetry Night is planned for Friday, April 11, 7:00 to 8:30pm at the Community Center. All talents are welcome. For more information, contact Lisa Wilson at the Community Center at 331-2940.

The second session of recreation programs will begin over the next two weeks. To receive registration and program information, visit the Village website at www.southholland.org or call the Community Center.

Trustee Bennett concluded his report with a letter from Senator Barack Obama congratulating the Village of South Holland for our 6th consecutive year being designated a Tree City USA.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2008-0078 through 2008-0094, 16 permits representing $84,790 of investment in the community. Among these permits is a new storefront for Huguelet Construction.

Finance

The Board Approved Register No. 605 for $776,764.72 and No. 606 for $455,455.46, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments and salaries.

Other Notables:

The Board approved a motion to appoint Trustee DeYoung as Mayor Pro-tem for this meeting in light of the absence of Village President Don A. DeGraff.

A public hearing was held on the Stormwater Conveyance National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Ordinance.

Pastor James McKinney III of Kingdom Ministries offered the prayer at the start of the board meeting.

Engineer's Report:

- The Board approved the Stormwater Conveyance NPDES Ordinance as presented by Village Engineer Pat Barker.

- The Board approved the annual Motor Fuel Tax Resolution.

- Engineer Barker announced that 170th Street will be completely reconstructed this summer from I-94 to Burnham Avenue.

Attorney's Report:

- The Board approved a TIF Inducement Resolution for Ed Miniat. The company, located at 16250 Vincennes, will undergo a 15,000 suare foot expansion for the relocation of its corporate headquarters and offices to South Holland.
