Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.
David Orr Visits South Holland
Cook County Clerk David Orr recently visited the South Holland Village Hall, which was an early voting site. Of the 44 suburban Cook County sites offering early voting between january 14 and January 31, South Holland posted the largest turnout of voters. David Orr's visit to our community was featured on WTTW Channel 11 on the "Chicago Tonight" segment.
Black History Month
Local schools and churches are hosting a variety of activities and events during the month of February. For more information on some of the upcoming events, take a look at the next issue of South Holland Today.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the Community Center staff is still accepting late registrations for winter/spring programs. For a list of activities and classes, visit the South Holland website at www.southholland.org or stop by the Community Center to pick up a copy of the latest program booklet.
Ingalls Hospital recently conducted free blood pressure screenings at the Community Center.
The Community Center maintenance staff completed repairs to the pool and spa heating systems, and park maintenance personnel repaired the overhead doors at Municipal Park.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits 2008-0030 through 2008-0054, 24 permits representing $177,846 of investment in the community. Trustee DeYoung reported that among these permits are two demolition permits for the Village of South Holland.
Other Notables:
Rev. Heino Blaauw of Peace Christian Reformed Church offered the prayer at the start of the board meeting.
The Board issued a Black History Month Proclamation, honoring the myriad contributions that African Americans have made to the betterment of our country.
The Board approved a resolution honoring the late Bert Docter, who served as a Village Trustee for 16 years. The resolution was passed in recognition of Bert's commitment to the Village of South Holland and the entire Chicago Southlannd region.
The Board approved a resolution endorsing the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Greenest Region Compact Initiative. The goal of the Caucus is to become the most environmentally friendly region in the country. The Compact is a voluntary initiative to improve the region's air, water, and land, reduce greehouse gases, minimize waste, and reduce energy consumption through a series of environmental actions such as CFL bulb distribution.
The Board approved a resolution authorizing the re-execution of an intergovernmental agreement with the villages of Riverdale and Dolton for the joint police radio system. The agreement expires in six years.
Trustee Sullivan presented financial Register No. 602 for $594,328.35 and No. 603 for $394,636.31, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries. The registers were approved by the board.
