Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Trustee Doorn announced the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Musical Tribute - Love the Tie that Binds, Saturday, January 12, 10:00am at Covenant United Church of Christ, 1130 E 154th Street. Parking for this event is available at Covenant United Church of Christ, Valley Kingdom Ministries, and Thornridge High School. Thornton Township will provide shuttle bus service between Thornridge and Covenant UCC.
The next blood drive is Sunday, January 20, 8:00am to 12:30pm at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 880 E 154th Street.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced the recent success of the Senior Social Christmas Gala, which was enjoyed by nearly 100 seniors who were treated to a catered breakfast and entertainment provided by Mike Lenich.
Registration for winter programs is available to South Holland residents beginning Thursday, January 10, from Noon to 7:00pm, and open to the general public Friday, January 11, from 9:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday, January 12, from 9:00am to 3:00pm. The program booklet is available on the Village's website and at the Community Center.
The Community Center pool underwent its annual maintenance work. The pool was drained, inspected, cleaned, and painted over the Christmas holiday. Trustee Bennett thanked residents and members for their patience during the annual pool closure, which is necessary in order to provide a quality, clean, and safe pool for everyone.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits 2007-1435 through 2007-1455 and 2008-0001 through 2008-0002, representing $463,051 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, these permits include foundation work for a new retail building at 641 E 162nd Street (the former Ossama Hair Salon), three additional antennas for Sprint/Nextel, and a new awning for Williamson Realty.
Other Notables:
Rev. Pete Tassio of King's Community Church offered the prayer at the start of the meeting.
The Board approved the merging of multiple parcels into a single parcel at 173rd & Halsted (the former Yellow Ribbon Restaurant and the South Holland portion of the former Knights Inn Motel).
The Board approved the subdividing of the Huppert property at 168th & State Street into two parcels.
The Board approved a resolution authorizing the sale of the south parcel of the Huppert property to Calumet Carton.
The Board financial register No. 599 for $562,381.69 and No. 600 for $1,459,599.73, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
