based on the October 1, 2007 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Monday, October 15, 2007 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Mark Your Calendars

The next blood drive is Thursday, October 4, from 4pm to 8pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 651 E 166th Street.

South Holland CommUNITY Dinners will be held on October 13 at 6:00pm. Residents are encouraged to host or attend a CommUNITY Dinner, which will begin at 6:00pm in the homes of South Holland residents. There will be fun dinner themes this year for all to enjoy, such as Caribbean-style and "support our troops" dinners.

Tuesday, October 9 at 7:00pm is the Annual Parade of Lights. The event, which is held in honor of fallen firefighters, will begin with a brief remembrance service at Thorn Creek Church, 1875 E 170th Street, followed by a silent parade. The route is available in the October issue of South Holland Today, as well as on the Village's website at www.southholland.org

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that a new swing set was installed at Hollandale Park, 164th & Michigan, and new playground equipment has been installed at Pioneer Park, 164th & Kimbark.

The Community Center will host "Harbor Lights", a world famous acapella group performing music from the 1950s, on Saturday, October 20. Doors open at 6:00pm and the show begins at 6:30pm. Advance tickets are $14 for seniors, and $16 for ages 16 and up. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $18. For more information, contact the Community Center at 331-2940.

The Board approved contract awards for the Veterans Park concession building to the following low bidders:
T&K Masonry, Inc for masonry; Seal Tight Exteriors, Inc for roofing; Midwest Floor Covering, Inc for flooring; Savage Decorating, Inc for painting; DME Access, Inc for the vertical lift; and Central States Automatic Sprinklers, Inc for fire protection sprinklers.

Trustee Bennett announced that bids are being accepted for the ornamental lighting contract for the Veterans Park concession building. The bid opening is scheduled for Wednesday, October 10 at 10:00am.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2007-1066 through 2007-1139, representing $7,776,797 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young reported that among these permits are a dental office build-out at the LaSalle Business Park; a new roof for Spirit of God Fellowship; a demolition permit for the Village of South Holland; signage for Family Counseling Center; fencing for Miller Transport; a new business Alfa Unique; and a $7 Million addition project for Rupari Foods.

In addition, the Board approved a motion to request bids to complete Town Center facades for various businesses in the area.

Other Notables:

A public hearing was held for the proposed Gateway East TIF district.

A public hearing was held for the Christian Community Health Center Bond Issue. Following the hearing, the Board approved a resolution in support of the bond issue, which is to be issued by the Village of Midlothian.

The Board approved the purchase of property at 256 E 161st Place as part of the Wausau Avenue extension project.

The Board approved a land transfer agreement and an exclusion of land agreement that will better define the property line of the former Knights Inn parcel, which the Village currently shares with the City of Harvey.

The Board approved Registers No. 590 and 591 totaling $1,333,257.33, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board approved the transfer of a TIF redevelopment agreement for the Haggerty Buick-Pontiac-GMC dealership.

The Board approved a Class 8 Resolution for Rich Van Hattem who will construct a 20,000 square foot building at 161st & Van Drunen Road.
