based on the August 6, 2007 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Monday, August 20, 2007 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Mark Your Calendars

Heritage Festival has activities at a new location for 2007 - The Labor Day Weekend will kick off Thursday, August 30 with the Artists Gallery from 12:00pm to 8:00pm at the Community Center. The events for the festival on Saturday through Monday will be held at Paarlberg Park, 172nd & Paxton. The Praise and Worship Service will be held Sunday, September 2 at Veterans Park.

Featured activities at Paarlberg Park on Saturday, September 1 include:
- Bocce Tournament: 8:00am
- Car Show: 8:00am - 4:00pm
- Kid's Garage Sale: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
- Mr. D's Magic Show: 12:00pm
- Laser Tag: 1:00pm - 4:00pm
- Obstacle Course, Slide, & Dino Jump: 1:00pm - 7:00pm
- Petting Zoo & Pony Rides: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
- Jesse White Tumblers: 5:00pm

Heritage Festival Praise and Worship Service featuring Senator Rev. James Meeks - This year's featured speaker will surely bring a large crowd to Veterans Park on Sunday, September 2 at 6:00pm. Bu sure to bring a comfortable chair and come early for this must-see event.

The Village Block Party - South Holland's Largest! - to be held Saturday, September 1 beginning at 5:30pm at Paarlberg Park. Fun activities are planned, including the popular Jamaican One-Man Band, a stepping dance demonstration, the Thornwood High School band, as well as other local talent.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the "Comedy With Class" night featuring stand-up comedian Ken Sevara was a huge success. The event was a sell-out.

The next entertainment attraction will be the Harbor Lights, a 50s/60s doo-wop acapella group. The date to save is October 20. Pricing and additional information will be available at the end of August.

New playground equipment was installed at Tomahawk Park last week. Pioneer Park will get new equipment this week.

Registration for fall programs will take place September 6-8.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2007-0759 through 2007-0867, representing $538,104 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include roofing for T & B Tube Co. The company serves a wide range of industries, including furniture, housewares, lawn and garden, automotive, and tube fabricators. Many of the additional permits were for residential home improvements.

Other Notables:

Jan Mulder of Young Life opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved the appointment of Eric Bruinsma to Fire Inspector.

Engineer's Report: State Street between Route 6 and Sibley Blvd and 154th Street between South Park Ave and I-94 will be resurfaced. A pedestrian bridge will be erected at the northwest corner of Route 6 and State Street.

The Board approved a resolution establishing a public hearing for the proposed Gateway East TIF district to be held October 1.

The Board approved a reolution authorizing Homewood's village manager to make grant application for Cy Pres Fund for 911 funding.

The Board approved resolutions to purchase property at 413 W 162nd Street and 255 E 161st Place.

The Board approved Register No. 584 for $985,703.29 and No. 585 for $1,450,115.98, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board approved a resolution renewing the Village's eligibility for the Federal Surplus Property Program to purchase construction vehicles and equipment at a reduced cost.
