based on the July 16, 2007 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Mark Your Calendars

Grand Opening of the Faith Family Future Center - The Village's Faith Family Future Center will have its grand opening Friday, July 20 and Saturday July 21 at its location at 16931 South Park Avenue. Friday evening will feature light refreshments, a tour of the facility, and free family movie night.

Blood Drive at Village Hall - The next blood drive will be held on Thursday, August 2 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Village Hall.

Heritage Festival Artists Gallery - Artists Wanted! All artists interested in participating in the Heritage Festival Artists Gallery must submit their application by July 31. The artwork will be displayed August 30 thru September 1 at the Community Center.

Vehicle Stickers and Dog Licenses now available - Current 2006-07 vehicle stickers expire on June 30. Vehicle stickers may be purchased by mail or picked up at Village Hall. The stickers must be displayed by August 1 to avoid a 50% late fee. Dog licenses are also available for purchase at Village Hall. Village Hall hours are: Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to Noon.

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament - The Village of South Holland in conjunction with Calvary Academy, Spirit of God Fellowship and Restoration Ministries will be holding the tournament for boys entering grades 6-12 on Saturday, August 4 at 9:00am. Registration deadline is Saturday, July 28. For more information, contact Kendra Miller at 333-3370 or Village Hall at 210-2904.

Heritage Festival has activities at a new location for 2007 - The Labor Day Weekend will kick off Thursday, August 30 with the Artists Gallery from 12:00pm to 8:00pm at the Community Center. The events for the festival on Saturday through Monday will be held at Paarlberg Park. For a full schedule of the events, look in the latest edition of the South Holland Today and on the Village's website.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that on July 21 at 6:30pm, the Parks and Recreation Department will host "Comedy With Class" featuring stand up comedian Ken Sevara. Tickets are $12 for seniors (60 and older) and $14 for ages 16 and older. All tickets purchased on the day of the event will be $18. The cost of admission will include appetizers, snacks, fresh fruit treats and dessert items, as well as coffee, soft drinks, and lemonade.

Hollandale and Thorndale Parks have new playground equipment in place. The next two parks to be done will be Pioneer and Tomahawk Parks.

Park summer maintenance crews will start trimming and cleaning around all of the park name signs.

Featured acts at the Heritage Festival Block Party will include the popular Jamacian One-Man Band, an African Dance group, as well as other local artists. The event will take place at Paarlberg Park beginning at 5:00pm on Saturday, September 1.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits 2007-0693 through 2007-0758, representing $1,685,000 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include new upgraded fencing for Arden Courts; electrical upgrades and interior office expansion for Exhibit Sources; fascia, soffits, gutters, overhead doors, service doors, and fencing for J. Gill Company; Phase I remodeling for Jewel/Osco; a buildout for Chase Bank at 370 E 162nd Street; roof upgrades for Manor Care; and a buildout for a tenant at the Hugglet Corp on 170th Street.

Other Notables:

Village Board President Don A. De Graff opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved the appointment of Jim De Groot to the Fire Pension Board.

The Board approved a resolution to adopt an Employer Assisted Housing Program in collaboration with the Metropolitan Planning Council. The program will feature financial incentives and support for Village employees interested in home ownership options within the Town Center development.

The Board approved an Ordinance authorizing red light traffic enforcement through the installment of timed cameras to be placed at designated intersections to improve resident safety.

The Board approved a Class 8 Resolution for Industrial Plastics Recycling to expand to a 28,000 sq. ft. building.

The Board approved an Ordinance regarding the placement hazards due to temporary storage units (i.e. PODS) and dumpsters, limiting them to 8 days in a driveway and precluding placement in the street.

The Board approved Register No. 583 for $1,647,500.87, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
