Heritage Festival Artists Gallery - Artists Wanted! All artists interested in participating in the Heritage Festival Artists Gallery must submit their application by July 31. The artwork will be displayed August 30 thru September 1 at the Community Center.
Vehicle Stickers and Dog Licenses now available - Current 2006-07 vehicle stickers expire on June 30. Vehicle stickers may be purchased by mail or picked up at Village Hall. The stickers must be displayed by August 1 to avoid a 50% late fee. Dog licenses are also available for purchase at Village Hall. Village Hall hours are: Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm, Saturday 8am to Noon.
3 on 3 Basketball Tournament - The Village of South Holland in conjunction with Calvary Academy, Spirit of God Fellowship and Restoration Ministries will be holding the tournament for boys entering grades 6-12 on Saturday, August 4 at 9:00am. Registration deadline is Saturday, July 28. For more information, contact Kendra Miller at 333-3370 or Village Hall at 210-2904.
Heritage Haul 5K - Saturday, September 15. This event will kick off at 8:00am at 158th and South Park. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation to assist their efforts to fight childhood obesity. South Holland Today coming soon - Look for the June/July edition of the South Holland Today to arrive in your mailbox this week. This issue features articles on the new Interstate Zoning District, and the new Faith, Family, Future Center.
Parks and Recreation
It was announced that the park summer crews started painting playground equipment and fencing last week. The first park scheduled to be completed is Riverview Park located at Riverview Drive & Woodlawn East.
Thornton Equipment Company started river and creek bank trimming last week. They expect to have all river and creek banks completed by mid-July.
On July 21 at 6:30pm, the Parks and Recreation Department will host the first evening of "Comedy With Class" featuring Ken Sevara. Tickets are $12 for seniors (60 and older) and $14 for ages 16 and older. All tickets purchased on the day of the event will be $18. The cost of admission will include appetizers, snacks, fresh fruit treats and dessert items, as well as coffee, soft drinks, and lemonade.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits 2007-0599 through 2007-0692, representing $444,800 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include signage for Dee's Beauty Supply, AT&T, and M&M Pallets, upgrades for Renal Care at Town Center, and paving for Pacesetter Plaza.
Other Notables:
A public hearing was held for the 2007-2008 Appropriation Ordinance.
A public hearing was held for the Combined Sewer System Public Notification Plan.
Pastor Troy O-Quinn of River Oaks Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved the appointment of Mike Nylen to the Fire and Police Commission.
The Board approved the purchase of property located at 257 E 161st Place for the extension of Wausau Avenue.
The Board approved an Easement Agreement with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District to continue its monitoring of the deep tunnel.
The Board approved a Class 6B Resolution for Rupari Food Services, Inc. for a 70,000 square foot freezer facility. The expansion is expected to generate 100-120 new jobs.
The Board approved a TIF Inducement Resolution for J. Gill 7 Company for a 2400 suare foot office space at 163rd Street & School Street.
The Board approved Register No. 581 for $1,602,759.99 and No. 582 for $524,619.58, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
The Board approved the most recent Floodplain Management Plan Update.
