based on the May 7, 2007 meeting.

Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.

New Commissioners ready for service
The Board approved the
appointments of the following new commissioners:
John Watson, Tim DeYoung, Garrick Bradley, Brian Kamstra, and Prince Reed to the
Economic Development Commission;
Pastor Georgina Ayala and William Green to the Communications Commission;
Kenneth Draus to the Electrical Commission; and
Melvin Mullins to the Youth Commission.
Mark Your Calendars
Take a Bite out of Grime and Arbor Day Celebration - Saturday, May 12, 8:30am to 12:00pm at the South Holland Community Center. Join the Mayor, Clerk, and Trustees as they form teams to clean up designated sites along major roadways and riverbanks. Breakfast and lunch provided. Call Ed Stewart at the Community Center at 331-2940 to register.
Student Government Day - Monday, May 21, 7:00pm at the Community Center. Eighth grade students from Calvary Academy, Calvin Christian, Christ Our Savior, Coolidge Middle School, and McKinley Jr. High School will represent a village official as they conduct a "mock" board meeting during the 19th annual Student Government Day.
Mayor's Coffee - Tuesday, June 5, 7:30am at Village Hall. Join Mayor Don A. De Graff and other village officials for coffee, donuts and juice as you share your thoughts, ask questions, and express concerns.
Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that registration for summer programs at the Community Center begins Thursday, May 24, Noon to 7:00pm for South Holland residents only. Open registration begins Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Those who register by May 26 will receive a $10 discount on each summer class, excluding Pre-School, Pre-School Day Camp, and regular Day Camps.
This past fiscal year, the Community Center hosted 1,045 events, including 602 rentals and 443 community-related events. In addition, almost 7,000 hours of recreational programming were held this year.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits Nos. 2007-0248 through 2007-0352, representing $562,711 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include new signage due to a name change for First National Bank, paving for A. J. Adhesives, landscaping for outdoor dining for Carlo's Pizza, signage for two new businesses, Video Twist Productions, and Firehouse Steak & Lemonade, a new canopy, paving, and lawn sprinkler system for Gatling Chapel, and new signage and siding for Dr. Rosa Galvin Silva, DDS.
Other Notables:
Evangelist Foli Oronkle of Christ Apostolic Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved Ordinances establishing an Interstate Zoning District and Planned Unit Development process for development projects within the district.
The Board approved an Easement Agreement with School District 151.
The Board approved the annual Salary Ordinance.
The Board approved an Amendment to expand the Communications Commission from 7 to 9 members, and the Electrical Commission from 6 to 8 members.
The Board approved Register No. 575 for $1,035,899.74 and 576 for $404,908.25, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
The Board approved the execution of contracts for the services of the auditor and the Treasurer for the Village.
The Board authorized the hiring of four firefighters from the eligibility list.
