Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.

Retiring Deputy Fire Chief lauded for many years of service
Surrounded by family, colleagues, and fellow firefighters, Deputy Fire Chief Jim Olthoff was honored by the Village for his more than 30 years of service as a firefighter. Among his many achievements are the leadership he exhibited throughout the region in various capacities and the $630,000 in grants secured for the fire department for equipment upgrades.

Mayor's Prayer Breakfast - Thursday, May 3, 7:30am to 8:45am at Spirit of God Fellowship, 16350 State Street. The guest speaker is Melvin Banks, founder of Urban Ministries International. Ticket donation is $6, and available at local churches, Calvary Bookstore, or at the door. Presented by the South Holland Ministerial Association.
Lions Pancake Day - Saturday, May 5, 6:30am to 1:00pm at the South Holland Community Center, 501 E 170th Street. The all-you-can-eat event is $5 per person, and children 4 and under eat free. Tickets are available from Lions Club members and at the door.
Flood Insurance Maps Open House - Tuesday, May 8, 6:30pm to 8:30pm at the Community Center, 501 E 170th Street. Come review the new preliminary flood insurance maps.
Take a Bite out of Grime and Arbor Day Celebration - Saturday, May 12, 8:30am to 12:00pm at the South Holland Community Center. Join the Mayor, Clerk, and Trustees as they form teams to clean up designated sites along major roadways and riverbanks. Breakfast and lunch provided. Call Ed Stewart at the Community Center at 331-2940 to register.
Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that approximately 180 children and their parents braved the elements and participated in the Annual Easter Egg Hunt held at Veterans Park on Saturday, April 7.
Summer program registration will take place at the Community Center on May 24, 25, and 26.
The Fitness Center membership is up to 1,656. This is due to the aggressive marketing for corporate members by Ed Stewart.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits Nos. 2007-0188 through 2007-0247, representing $285,500 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include an interior tenant build-out for the Bradford Group, west of the new Walgreens; remodeling of the ceiling, wallpaper, floor tile, door, tables, and chairs for Subway in Pacesetter Plaza; an upgrade of equipment in 9 locations by AT&T; and roof work by All Steel Structures.
Other Notables:
Village Board President Don A. De Graff opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved its annual resolution to cede a portion of un-used Volume Cap to the Illinois Housing Development Authority's Mortgage Credit Certificate program and to cede the balance to the Illinois Department of Finance Authority for projects in the Chicago southland area.
The Board approved an ordinance amending the zoning code to issue conditional use permits to churches, lodges, and private clubs exclusively in residential areas.
The Board approved the annual Fund Transfer Resolution.
The Board approved contracts for the Veterans Park redevelopment project to the following low bidders: Abbott Paving for the south parking lot; Olthoff Crop. for water main work; and Steel Tie Exteriors for roofing on the operations building and dugouts.
The Board approved Register No. 574 for $2,451,543.60, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
The Board awarded a contract for the Village's 50/50 sidewalk replacement program to J & J Newell.
