Village Board,
based on the February 5, 2007 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on
Mayor's Leadership Award recipients to be honored
Representing the fields of education, business, municipal government and spiritual leadership, this year's recipients of the Mayor's Leadership Awards have all contributed to enhancing South Holland's values of faith, family, and future, respectively.
The recipients are:
Faith Award - Noreen Van Deursen, owner of Calvary Bookstore
Family Award - George Harris, Principal of McKinley Middle School
Future Award - Pat Mahon, Deputy Administrator for the Village of South Holland.
They will be honored during the biennial Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, Tuesday, February 13.
Reverend Alfonzo Surrett and Calvary Community Church will also receive and award of special recognition for their proactive efforts to unite two congregations of distinct racial identities into one multi-cultural body.

Trustee Doorn announced two upcoming events: the Mayor's Coffee on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00pm at the Community Center, and the annual Take a Bite out of Grime on Saturday, May 12. The Mayor's Coffee will focus on Flood Awareness Week and offer residents an update on the remapping of the Little Calumet watershed's floodplain, as well as a sample flood plan disaster kit. Take a Bite out of Grime and the annual Arbor Day celebration encourages residents to take part in efforts to continue to beautify South Holland. Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the ice rinks at Municipal, Van-O, Thorn Creek, and Willowbrook parks have been flooded and are open to skaters. Due to construction, the ice rink at Veterans Park is not available.
The fitness center has sent two treadmills out for reconditioning. The fitness center apologizes for any inconvenience while they are being refurbished.
The park maintenance staff received additional training in the use of pesticides and herbicides and has been recertified to handle and utilize these products.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits Nos. 2007-0021 through 2007-0065, representing $350,000 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, among these permits are electrical service upgrades for South Holland Public Access Studio, new signage for the Hilton Garden Inn and A.J. Adhesive, telephone equipment upgrades for AT&T, and fencing of 3 acres of newly purchased property by S&J Construction.
Other Notables:
Servant James McKinney, III of Kingdom Ministries opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved an ordinance memorializing the Route 6 TIF extension, which was passed by the Illinois legislature and signed by the Governor on January 29 of this year.
The Board approved Registers No. 566 for $989,100.11 and No. 567 for $730,772.79, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
Trustee James commended the Public Works department for their quick and thorough response to 5 water main breaks that have occured as a result of the recent frigid temperatures.
