based on the December 18, 2006 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

The village celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Trustee Doorn invites residents to join Mayor Don De Graff, the Village Board, and the South Holland Ministerial Association for the annual remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Thornwood High School, January 15, 2007 at 10:00am. The event, titled "Celebrating the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: The Man, The Dream, Our Responsibility", will feature presentations by students from School Districts 150, 151, and 205, and Calvin Christian School, as well as a musical performance by Rev. Dr. Ozzie Smith, Jr., Pastor of Covenant United Church of Christ.

The deadline to submit your nomination for the Mayor's Leadership Awards is December 31. Forms are available in the lobby at Village Hall as well as on the Village's website, www.southholland.org

Parks & Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that registration for the winter 2007 programs is January 4 for South Holland residents only, and January 5 & 6 for the general public. The schedule of programs can be viewed online at www.southholland.org. In addition, hard copies of the program book will be available at the Community Center.

The Community center preschool students presented their Christmas party to family, friends, and staff. The children sang songs and were visited by Santa who presented each child with a small gift. After the program, everyone enjoyed refreshments, provided by the parents, and good fellowship.

The Winter Monday Night Men's Basketball League is still recruiting players for its current session. Call Martin at the Community Center for more information.

Beginning in January, the Parks and Recreation Department will accept Visa or MasterCard as payment for recreation programs.

Winter Break Camp still has slots available for children ages 6 to 14. Contact Lisa at the Community Center for additional information.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-1401 through 2006-1428, representing $844,387 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young noted that the total valuation to date for 2006 is $27,552,562. Included in these permits are the following: new roofing for Peace Christian Reformed Church, electrical service for Accurate Dispersions, illumination of the Van Dam Rd water tower, demolition of a property for the Town Center redevelopment, one new home in the Preserves of South Holland subdivision, and 2 possible flood proofing rebates.

Other Notables:

Pastor Tony O'Quinn from River Oaks Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved the 2006-2007 Levy Ordinance and bond abatements.

The Board approved a Class 8 Resolution for Best Supply Company at 511 W Armory Drive.

In order to ensure a healthy economic balance, the Board approved the extension of moratoriums for an additional 6 months on businesses that are currently being studied, including licensed home day cares, nail salons, hair salons, and pay day loan businesses.

The Board approved Register No. 562 for $4,376,645.48, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries. Trustee Sullivan noted that of the expenditures for this period, $1,820,000 is for the principal payment of bonds.

The Board approved the purchase of the Village Church property at 16931 South Park Avenue, for use as a multipurpose center for all ages. More details to come.
