Information in this newsletter is intended only to highlight some of the activities of the Village Board,
based on the December 4, 2006 meeting.

Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

7:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced that LifeSource will host our next community blood drive this Friday, December 8, from 4:00pm to 9:00pm at the Village Hall, 16226 Wausau Avenue. South Holland residents and business owners are encouraged to donate blood this holiday season. Every time you donate blood, you help to save the lives of three people. In addition, your donation makes you eligible for a chance to win an iPod Nano.

The December 18, 2006 board meeting will start at 7:00pm, rather than its normal start time of 8:00pm.

Parks & Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the Parks & Recreation winter program schedule will be available online at www.southholland.org beginning Friday, December 22. Hard copies of the program schedule will be available at the Community Center. Class registration dates are January 4 for South Holland residents only, and January 5 & 6 for the general public.

Trustee Bennett reported that parks maintenance staff completed the installation of new park equipment at Thorn Creek Park.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-1353 through 2006-1400, representing $664,262 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include electrical, mechanical and washroom upgrades and three new offices for Best Supply; a new roof for Accurate Dispersions; and signage for new business Sprint that will occupy a portion of the property that was home to the former Fannie May store on Route 6.

Other Notables:

Pastor Willard High from Shephard's Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved a new four-year contract for the firefighters union. Village President Don A De Graff and Trustee N. Keith Chambers commended Deputy Village Administrator Pat Mahon and representatives of the firefighters union for working together amicably to negotiate a contract that is fair, fiscally sound, and beneficial to the firefighters and the Village.

The Board approved Register No. 560 for $470,638.98 and No. 561 for $644,008.41, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Public Works: Trustee James reminded residents that the yard waste toters can be used for regular garbage during the months of December, January, February, and March.
