based on the November 20, 2006 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Monday, December 4, 2006 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


South Park Avenue reopens on schedule

Trustee Doorn announced that on Wednesday, November 22 at 10:00am, Mayor Don De Graff, members of the Village Board and Administration, along with local business owners, will commemorate the reopening of South Park Avenue, between 160th Place and 161st Place.

Village Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Santa is coming to town on Friday, December 1 at 7:00pm. The lighting of the Village Christmas tree will take place in front of Village Hall, where children will have an opportunity to share their Christmas wish with Santa. Inside Fire Station 1, there will be caroling, led by members of the South Holland Neighborhood Groups Organizing Committee, as well as delicious refreshments provided by Thornton Township, and Christmas presents for kids up to age 12.

The next Mayor's Coffee will be held on Tuesday, December 5 at 7:30am at Village Hall. All residents are invited to attend.

Parks & Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the Parks & Recreation winter program schedule will be available online at www.southholland.org beginning Monday, December 18. Hard copies of the program schedule will be available at the Community Center. Class registration dates are January 4 for South Holland residents only, and January 5 & 6 for the general public.

A pre-school open house was held Wednesday, November 15 at the Community Center.

Trustee Bennett reported that inclement weather has delayed the installation of new park equipment at Thorn Creek Park, but the project should be complete by the end of the month.

The South Holland Night with the Chicago Bulls was enjoyed by more than 250 people who attended the game on Monday, November 6 at the United Center.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-1300 through 2006-1352, representing $227,063 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include an irrigation system at South Suburban College, a build-out for Sprint, a new business that will occupy a portion of the property that was home to the former Fannie May store on Route 6, a new driveway for Anderson Concrete Pumping, and two possible flood proofing rebates.

Other Notables:

Evangelist Foli Orokunle from Christ Apostolic Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved a TIF inducement resolution for Ed Miniat Corp. for a possible 24,000 square foot expansion of its business. This expansion would also provide space for the company to relocate its headquarters to South Holland.

The Board authorized the purchase of property located at 16080 South Park Avenue (formerly Season's Cafe) as part of the Town Center redevelopment project.

The Board approved Register No. 559 for $1,336,298.50, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board awarded a contract to the low bidder Utility Dynamics to illuminate the elevated water tank located on Van Dam Road.

Public Works: Trustee James reminded residents that the yard waste toters can be used for regular garbage during the months of December, January, February, and March.
