based on the August 21, 2006 meeting.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that registration for recreational programs will take place at the Community Center Thursday, August 24 (for South Holland residents only), 12:00-7:00pm, Friday, August 25, 9:00am-7:00pm, and Saturday, August 26, 9:00am-3:00pm. Information on class offerings can be found online at www.southholland.org and www.southhollandlibrary.org. There will be a limited number of program books available at the Community Center for residents who do not have computer access.

The South Holland Night with the Gary Railcats was a huge success with over 70 participants from South Holland. Mayor Don A De Graff threw a perfect strike during the pre-game ceremony.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0892 through 2006-0955, representing $1,065,583 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young highlighted a few of the permits issued, including new signs for Overnite Transporation, which was bought by UPS, two new homes in The Preserves of South Holland subdivision, and five possible flood proofing rebates.

South Park Avenue will be closed to traffic from 161st Place to 160th Place from September 5 through November 22. Residents are strongly encouraged to patronize businesses on South Park Avenue during the construction project.

Other Notables:

Pastor Al VanderMeer of First Reformed Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved the appointment of Don Grinwood to the Economic Development Commission.

The Board awarded a contract to low bidder JF New and Associates for earth work and landscaping for the detention basin at Veterans Park.

The Board approved an ordinance authorizing the placement of an eastbound stop sign at 152nd and Waterman Drive and a 3-way stop sign at Drexel and Waterman Drive.

The Board approved an amendment to the vehicle impoundment ordinance to allow up to 30 days for the Village to grant a hearing.

The Board approved Register No. 550 for $1,967,627.29, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board awarded a contract to purchase an ambulance from low bidder Osage Ambulance.

Videos providing information regarding safety measures and terrorism education will be aired at community policing meetings and made available to residents upon request.
