based on the August 7, 2006 meeting.

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.

August 21, 2006 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Heritage Haul 5K event promotes wellness
Trustee Doorn announced that the first annual Community Wellness Day and Heritage Haul 5K Run/Walk event will be a main feature among the activities scheduled for the Heritage Fest this year, which begins Thursday, August 31 with the Gallery of Art at the Community Center and culminates Monday, September 4, with the Paarlberg Fest. On Saturday, September 2 at 8:00am, WGN news anchor Valerie Warner will be on hand to help Mayor Don A. De Graff kick off the event. Wellness screenings will be provided by Advocate Health Centers from 8:00am to Noon, along with free bike helmets for children. In addition, kids can expect a great time as they "Get Moving With Ronald McDonald," an interactive and energetic activity led by Ronald. Trustee Doorn encouraged everyone to come out to support the event.

Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that summer day camp finished last week. It was one of the best camps ever. The children participated in sports, crafts, games, field trips, and many other fun activities. A big thank you goes out to the summer staff and all who participated this summer.
Residents should be receiving a post card in the mail informing them about fall registration and new programs. The department is trying something new: the program booklet will be available online this fall at www.southholland.org. For those who do not have a computer, the South Holland Public Library provides access to the Village website, and a hard copy of the program booklet will be available at the Community Center, 501 E 170th Street.
The South Holland Largest Block Party has a new name: The Village Block Party - South Holland's Largest. This year's party, scheduled for Saturday, September 2, 5:30pm to 8:00pm at 160th place between South park Avenue and Parkside, will feature the Thornwood High School Marching Band, the Banjo Buddies Dixieland Band, Hanna's African Youth Dance Group, the Jamaican One-Man Band, and Keith Evans, a Bubbleologist. Food will be available for purchase from the Thornwood Band Parents Association.
Engineer's Report
Upon the recommendation of Village Engineer Pat Barker, the Board awarded a contract in the amount of $1,980,936.40 to Alpha Construction to complete the South Park Avenue road reconstruction project.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0778 through 2006-0891, representing $10,841,904 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young highlighted a few of the permits issued, including seven Brownstone permits for Covenant Development, construction of Walgreens for Bradford Real Estate, 200,000 square feet of warehouse and office space for Liberty Furniture, two demolition permits for the Village of South Holland and four new homes ranging from $425,000 to $499,000 at The Preserves of South Holland subdivision.
Other Notables:
Pastor Willard High of The Shepherd's Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved an ordinance authorizing additional stop signs at 154th Street, west of State Street.
The Board approved an amendment to the "Tag Day" ordinance to reflect the proper amount of insurance required by an organization.
The Board approved the purchase of property located at 256 E 162nd Street in the Town Center district.
Trustee Sullivan announced there will be a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for boys entering grades 6 to 12 on Saturday, August 12, beginning at 9:00am at Calvary Academy, 163rd & State Street. For more information or to register, contact Ray Banks at 333-3370 or Village Hall at 210-2904.
The Board approved Register No. 548 for $711,320.09 and No. 549 for $1,102,918.43, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
Trustee James announced that Prince Drive is now open to traffic. Sidewalk repairs are still underway.
The next Mayor's Coffee is Tuesday, September 12, 7:00pm at the Community Center.
