based on the July 3, 2006 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on
Monday, July 17, 2006 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced that plans for this year's Heritage Festival are well underway. The five-day event will begin Thursday, August 31 with the Gallery of Art exhibition at the Community Center and conclude Monday, September 4, with Paarlberg Fest at Paarlberg Park. Other activities taking place at Veterans Park include the Heritage Haul 5K Run/Walk event, wellness screenings, Mr. D's Magic Show, the Jesse White Tumblers, the Largest Block Party, the Annual Car Show & Swap Meet, and a worship service sponsored by the South Holland Ministerial Association.

Artists interested in participating in the Gallery of Art exhibition have until Monday, July 31 to register. The Gallery will be open to the public Thursday, August 31 through Saturday, September 2.

The Heritage Haul Planning Committee will hold its next volunteer recruitment event on Saturday, August 5 at the Community Center at 10:00am. If you are interested in volunteering or would like more information about the Heritage Haul, please call Mary Ann Thornton at Village Hall, 210-2918. Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the pool and whirlpool at the Community Center will be shut down from August 14 through August 28 to perform preventative maintenance procedures and maintenance inspections.

The South Holland Night with the Gary Railcats Baseball Team will be held Wednesday, August 2 at 7:00pm. Tickets are on sale at the Community Center. The cost is $29 per ticket and includes an all-you-can-eat ballpark buffet, along with reserved seating in the 1st and 3rd base party decks, VIP entry, and free parking.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0622 through 2006-0704, representing $1,905,869 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young reported that the permits include paving for Chesterfield Awning, upgrades for Wausau Enterprises, construction of three new homes in The Preserves of South Holland, and two possible flood proofing rebates.

Other Notables:

Reverend Heino Blaauw from Peace Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved a resolution authorizing reimbursement for Town Center infrastructure improvements.

The Board approved a resolution amending the Town Center Lot B redevelopment agreement between the Village of South Holland and Covenant Development, which will increase the number of brownstone units from 24 to 25.

The Board approved Register No. 545 for $1,356,645.34 and No. 546 for $1,285,483.86, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board approved the annual salary ordinance.

Trustee James announced that the railroad crossing at 170th Street and Parkside will be closed and reconstructed beginning Monday, July 10. The project is expected to take one week to complete. There will be detour signs posted to re-route motorists.
