based on the May 15, 2006 meeting.

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday,
June 5, 2006 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Student Government Day showcases our talented youth
Sixteen 8th grade students from various South Holland schools and home-school students participated in the 18th Annual Student Government Day. Students had the opportunity to learn about Village government from the Board of Trustees and administrators. While conducting a "mock" board meeting, the students offered interpretations of their respective Village official's job. Following the meeting, the students were presented with award plaques and treated to a reception.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the Summer Program books will be mailed to residents the week of May 15. The Summer Program book is also available on the Village website, www.southholland.org. Registration for summer programs will be held at the Community Center, May 25-27.
The Kids All American Fishing Derby for ages 4 to 16 will be held at Gouwens Park on Saturday, June 3 with check-in at 8:00am. Fishing expert Rich Hamilton will conduct a fishing clinic, Friday June 2, 7:00pm at the Community Center on the basics of fishing. Both programs are for South Holland residents only. The registration deadline is Saturday, May 27.
A Family Fun and Fitness Expo will be held at the Community Center on Saturday, May 27 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Fiona Verde of Soul 106.3FM will host the event with a live broadcast.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0347 through 2006-0420, representing $860,000 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young reported that the permits were issued to Hasaan Hair Salon and Partners in Education for signage, Northern Steel for a build out, and Morningside Group for a $372,000 new home in the new subdivision, The Preserves of South Holland.
Other Notables:
Pastor Georgina Ayala of Living Word Training Center South opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved resolutions honoring coaches Gary Lagesse and Gary Haupert of Thornwood High School, who were recognized by Village Board President Don A De Graff as "Two of the best coaches in the IHSA."
The Board approved a housekeeping MFT resolution for $14,117.
The Board approved an ordinance to vacate portions of streets and alleys east of South Park Avenue between 160th Place and 161st Street. In addition, the Board approved a final Planned Unit Development for Phase B of the Brownstones as part of the Town Center Development.
Community Coordination: Trustee Doorn announced that the South Holland Municipal band will launch its 2006-2007 season during the Memorial Day Parade, May 29. Check the South Holland Today and Village website for future performance dates through Labor Day.
The Board approved Register No. 541 for $1,546,368.06, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
