based on the May 1, 2006 meeting.

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.

May 15, 2006 at 8:00PM

Village lauds achievements of Thornwood's Illinois Principal of the Year
Principal Gary Lester received a much deserved standing ovation as the Village commended his outstanding tenure at Thornwood High School which earned him the distinction of being named Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principals Association.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn announced that the Lions Club will hold its annual Pancake Day at the Community Center from 6:30am to 1:00pm on Saturday, May 6. Tickets are available for $5 from Lions Club and at Village Hall. Children 4 will be admitted for free. Also featured at the Community Center will be the South Holland Business Association Financial Expo, Tuesday, May 23, 4-7pm. Come learn about tips and financial resources for home, business retirement planning, or college needs from the experts.
Eighth grade students from Calvary Academy, Calvin Christian, Christ Our Savior, Christian Home Educators of the South Suburbs (C.H.E.S.S.), Coolidge Middle School, McKinley Jr. High, and Protestant Reformed have been assigned to interview a Village official and represent them at a "mock" board meeting during the 18th Annual Student Government Day event on Monday, May 15 at 7:00pm at the Community Center.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the "Take a Bite Out of Grime" and Arbor Day event was a huge success, as over 150 residents joined Mayor De Graff and the Village Board to give South Holland a "spring cleaning." Two trees were planted in dedication to retired Parks and Recreation Director Paul Pearson.
The Annual Kid's Fishing Derby will be held at Gouwens Park on Saturday, June 3 from 8am to Noon for kids ages 4 to 16. The event is for South Holland residents only and is free. Registration may be completed by May 27 at the Community Center. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0270 through 2006-0346, representing $462,880 of investment in the community. According to Trustee De Young, the permits include new signage for the Shopper, Stanfa Tire, Taft Industrial Partners, and Allen Automotive Seat Covers, a build-out for Chicago Christian Counseling, and demolition of the old South Holland Bank.
Other Notables:
The Board approved new terms and appointments for staff and volunteers for various boards, committees and commissions.
The Board approved a resolution observing May 15, 2006 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day.
The Board approved a resolution recognizing Neighbor Day to be celebrated the third Saturday of June by residents.
The Board approved a proclamation declaring May 14-20 as Emergency Medical Services Week.
The Board approved a resolution to close South Park Avenue from 158th to 170th for the Memorial Day Parade.
The Board approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of three properties for the continued development of Town Center.
The Board approved an inducement resolution for the Bradford Group to develop the new Walgreens and retail center.
The Board approved an intergovernmental agreement with School District 205 for the continued presence of a School Resource Officer on the Thornwood campus.
The Board approved Register No. 540 for $981,060.17, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
