based on the April 3, 2006 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on
Monday, April 17, 2006 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn invited residents to the "Take a Bite out of Grime" event and the Arbor Day Celebration, April 29 at 8:30am. Join the Mayor, Clerk, Trustees, and Administration as they form teams to clean up designated sites along major roadways and riverbanks. The morning will begin with a tree planting ceremony in honor of Arbor Day. All the tools and materials needed will be provided and a continental breakfast and delicious lunch will be served. In addition, 50 volunteers will be given tree seedlings on a first come, first served basis. To register for the event, please call the Village Hall at 210-2904.

The Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, sponsored by the South Holland Ministerial Association, will be held Thursday, May 4 at 7:30am at First Reformed Church, 15924 South Park Avenue. More information is available in the April issue of South Holland Today.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the Easter Egg Hunt for South Holland residents ages 1 through 10 will be held Saturday, April 8 at Veterans Park at 10:00am, rain or shine. There is no charge for the event. South Holland businesses and organizations have donated gift baskets that the children will take home after hunting for the eggs.

April 8 is also the date for the 2nd Annual Art Show at the Community Center, featuring a display of arts and crafts by participants of the Community Center art class.

The summer program booklet is scheduled to be mailed out the third week of May. Look for many new programs for all ages this summer.

The Park Maintenance staff has been out checking equipment in the parks. If residents notice any equipment that is damaged and in need of repair, please call 331-2940.

The National Arbor Day Foundation has recognized South Holland for the 5th consecutive year with its Tree City USA award.

Part-time seasonal positions are available for day camp counselor, pre-school day camp counselor, youth soccer, sports camp, and day camp aides. Applications are available at Village Hall through April 8.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0167 through 2006-0220, representing $367,000 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young reported that the permits include an office build-out for Brites Cartage on State Street, wiring for emergency lighting for Touch & Go Auto Spa on Sibley Boulevard, and permits for 7 new Brownstones at Park Place.

Other Notables:

Reverend Heino Blaauw from Peace Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved the appointments of Brent Verhagen and Larry Broertjes to the Economic Development Commission and Gwen Change to the Park Advisory Board.

The Board approved a Volume Cap Resolution to cede $500,000 of its Volume Cap to the Illinois Housing Development Authority for its first-time homebuyers program and $1.7 Million of the Volume Cap to the Illinois Finance Authority for southland projects.

The Board approved Register No. 537 for $859,868.28 and No. 538 for $391,279.14, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Public Works: Trustee James announced that as of April 1, blue toters are to only be used for yard waste. Residents can call the Public Works Department for branch pick-up.
