Residents invited to learn about the property tax appeal process

Trustee Doorn announced that Mayor Don A. De Graff, the Village Board of Trustees, and members of the Cook County Board of Review will be on hand Saturday, March 18 at 10:00am at the South Holland Community Center to walk residents step-by-step through the tax appeal process.  "Residents will receive information that will make the tax appeal process as easy as possible," says Doorn, recalling her experience last year with the program. All forms needed for the process will be available at the meeting.

Residents are also invited to join Mayor De Graff for the next Mayor's Coffee on Tuesday, March 21 at 7:00pm at the Community Center.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett informed residents that good weather conditions during the first half of February allowed park crews to start the landscaping project at the south entrance of Veterans Park.

The Monday Night Adult Basketball League has been a huge success.  The teams are very competitive and everyone is having a great time.  Due to the success, the league will be expanded to two nights per week in the future.

Public Safety

Trustee Chambers announced that the Police Department recently rolled out its 2006 Community Policing Initiative.  A detailed informational card describing the initiative was mailed to every home in the Village.  Chambers encouraged all residents to get involved, and to refer to the informational card to determine the day, time, and location of their neighborhood meetings.

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0058 through 2006-0084, representing $191,000 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young reported that these permits include remodeling at the Midwest Carvers Museum, an upgrade and enlarged offices at B & B Instruments on Taft Drive, a 60,000 sq. ft. expansion of Advanced Ground Care Products on Armory Drive, and new signage for both Ossama's Hair Design and new business Valet Cleaners.
