based on the February 6, 2006 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Boy Scout Troop 409 Performs Presentation of Colors

Boy Scouts from Troop 409 performed the Presentation of Colors at the board meeting.  Troop members meet weekly at South Holland's Greenwood Elementary School and have nearly 70 youth participants enrolled in their programs.  The Troop is affiliated with the Calumet Council and exposes young boys to activities that emphasize teamwork, responsibility, leadership, and life skills building.  The Boy Scouts had an opportunity to observe the meeting and to learn about the various responsibilities of the Village Board.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the Second Annual South Holland Talent Show is scheduled for Friday, February 10, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the South Holland Community Center.  All are invited to come to see South Holland's talented residents perform.  Admission is $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents.  Children under 2 years will be admitted free of charge to the event.

Mild weather has allowed park crews to get an early start on spring clean-up activities.  They have been doing preliminary landscaping work and clearing the parks of winter debris.

Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced that the next Mayor's Coffee will be held Tuesday, March 21 at 7:00pm at the South Holland Community Center.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0040 through 2006-0057, representing $228,216 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young reported that these permits include a building addition for Brites Cartage at 17001 State Street, signage for a new business in College Park on 161st and LaSalle Streets, and 2 possible flood proofing rebates.

Other Notables:

Associate Pastor David Lermy from River Oaks Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board passed a Resolution to appoint Police Chief Warren Millsaps to the E-Com Executive Board and to appoint Fire Chief Jim Wiley and Chief Millsaps to the E-Com Operating Committee.

The Board approved the purchase of property located at 221 E 161st Place for the continued redevelopment of Town Center.

The Board passed a resolution authorizing application for a Cook County community development block grant for Town Center infrastructure.

The Board approved Register No. 531 for $204,388.26 and No. 532 for $1,415,843.56, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Engineer's Report:  The Board awarded a concrete contract to low bidder G & M Cement Construction for $1,163,643.95 to complete 12 miles of concrete work as part of the 2005-2006 street resurfacing project.
