Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Board lauds softball team for state win

The Village Board applauded the South Holland Senior Girls Softball All-Star team for winning the Illinois State Championship.
Team members are Angie Biesiada, Jessie Boss, Michelle Britt, Rachel DeBoer, Ashley Ebbens, Lisa Hodges, April Houstma, Karyn Koopmans, Lauren Marshall, Jasmine McKinney, Renae Postema, Kara Vander Meulen, Crystal Vander Zee, and Samantha Wilson.
The team is managed by John Biesiada, with coaches Elroy Houstma, Bill DeBoer, and Ed Vander Meulen.

Village Board praises retired trustee

Village President Don A. De Graff and the entire Village Board congratulated retired trustee Jim Veld for dedicating nearly 11 years of tremendous service to the community.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that the Park maintenance staff is building new picnic tables and reconditioning park equipment in anticipation of the spring and summer seasons.

The Community Center pool has been recertified by the Arthritis Foundation.

The restrooms and hallways in the Legion Hall were painted last month.  The floors will be stripped, cleaned and waxed later this month.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration was a resounding success, with more than 700 people in attendance.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2006-0009 through 2006-0039, representing $244,000 of investment in the community. Trustee De Young reported that these include 9 demolition permits for Town Center and 1 possible flood relief rebate.

Proclamation

Village Clerk, Sallie D. Penman, read a Proclamation declaring February as Black History Month in the Village of South Holland.

Other Notables:

Pastor Keith Larson from Thorn Creek Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved Register No. 530 for $1,104,228.01 covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board approved a resolution for the vacation of a 16ft alley and water main easement on the former South Holland Bank property located at the northwest corner of 162nd Street and South Park Avenue.

The Board approved the Bradford Group/Walgreens re-subdivision and Planned Unit Development, which include the construction of a 14,800 sq ft Walgreens and a 6,000 sq ft retail center.

The Board approved a Class 8 Resolution for lots 1 & 2 of the Bradford Group property for the construction of the new Walgreens.

The Board approved a TIF Inducement Resolution for South Park Hardware, located at 16074 South Park Avenue.

The Board approved contracts for asbestos removal and demolition of the Mentink building, located at 16059 South Park Avenue.

The Board approved the purchase of property located at 16230 South Park Avenue for the continued redevelopment of Town Center.
