Information in this newsletter is intended only to highlight some of the activities of the
Village Board,
based on the December 5, 2005 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday,
December 19, 2005 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn thanked the departments of Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Fire, ESDA, and Communications for making the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony and the "Santa Comes to Town" event a success.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the 5th Annual Holiday Lights Contest, hosted by the Neighborhood Groups Committee. Each contest entry must consist of at least 6 homes and have a specific theme. Judging will take place Monday, December 12 through Saturday, December 17.
The Village of South Holland will host its 2nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on January 16, 10:00am at Thornwood High School.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the winter program booklet will be mailed out to South Holland residents the week of December 19, 2005. Registration is planned for January 5 - 7, 2006. On January 5, registration is reserved for South Holland residents only.
Staff members of the Parks and Recreation Department who are certified playground inspectors will conduct inspections of playground equipment during the month of December.
The South Holland Community Center will be closed on Sunday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday, and Sunday, January 1 in observance of the New Year holiday.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-1402 through 2005-1440, representing $1,708,690 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, is a second building addition for Armil/CFS, roofing upgrades for Calvin Christian School, and 3 new homes permits at The Preserves of South Holland.
To date, for calendar year 2005, there has been $20.3 Million of investment in the community through commercial and residential construction and remodeling.
Other Notables:
Pastor Winfred Neely from Living Hope Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board passed a Resolution honoring former trustee Vern Vollbrecht for his commitment and service to the Village.
The Board approved the 2005-2006 Levy Ordinance for $7,926,032.
The Board approved Register No. 525 for $410,585.47 and No. 526 for $532,597.32, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
Trustee James informed residents that there will be a public meeting on December 6 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the South Holland Community Center to discuss a preliminary study for the improvements of 170th Street between Prince Drive and South park Avenue. All residents are encouraged to attend.
