based on the October 3, 2005 meeting.

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday,
October 17, 2005 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Community Coordination
Diversity Dinners October 15
Trustee Doorn encouraged residents to join their neighbors across the Village for the Diversity Dinners on October 15 at 6:00pm. The Village is still accepting guests for the event.
Rev. Heino Blaauw, Pastor of First Reformed Church, was presented the Community Spirit Award by Diversity, Inc., and organization consisting of 27 municipalities in the south suburban region. Rev. Blaauw was recognized for his work as both a leader and volunteer in the south suburban region.
South Holland Today's very own Marlene Cook recently received a first place award from the National Federation of Press Women for the Ask South Holland Today column. Mrs. Cook also received top honors for the column through the local affiliate, the Illinois Women's Press Association.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that new playground equipment has been installed at Vollbrecht Park, located at 172nd and Everett, and new equipment at DeYoungs Grove Park is expected to be complete in a week. The installation of new state-of-the-art equipment at Veterans Park will begin the week of October 10, 2005.
South Holland Nigh with the Chicago Bulls is Wednesday, November 2, at 7:30pm. Tickets are discounted for South Holland residents at $28. Transportation will not be provided by the Village this year. Eight students attending Thornwood High School who are evacuees from New Orleans will be attending the game.
The 2005 Summer Programs at the Community Center were a success, with over 2,700 in participation.
Registration has begun for South Holland children ages 3 to 12 for the annual Harvest Fest. The event is scheduled for Thursday, October 27, from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Community Center. The event is open to South Holland residents only and pre-registration is required by October 17. No registration will be taken on the day of the Fest.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-1074 through 2005-1146, representing $334,427 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are new signage for MB Financial Bank, roofing repair for Drumm Funeral Home, trailer storage and expanded parking for Pol-Trailer, paving repairs for Cherry Lane Motel, and a water main for T & B Tube. Trustee DeYoung also announced that BP Amoco at 162nd and Ellis is now open including Wild Bean Cafe as part of its mini mart.
Other Notables:
The Board approved an amendment to the Water Rates & Bills Ordinance that requires a $100 deposit for customers who have had water shut-off or who have written two returned checks in a twelve month period, and for new customers. The ordinance also requires a fee of $30 for returned checks and $75 to restore water service.
The Board approved the reactivation of a Class 6B Resolution for CPR Sales Ltd. at 16250 Vincennes.
The Board approved Register No. 519 for $1,167,163.88 and No. 520 for $182,940.75, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
Trustee Chambers announced that Chief Millsaps was elected President of the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police. Trustee Chambers also reminded residents that October 9-15 is Fire Prevention Week, with the theme of Use Candles With Care. The week will include a memorial service on October 11 at 7:00pm at Thorn Creek Church, 1875 E 170th Street, followed by the 10th Annual Parade of Lights.
The Board approved an ordinance authorizing the placement of an eastbound stop sign at 166th Street and Dobson.
