Village Board,
based on the September 19, 2005 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on Monday,
October 3, 2005 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn announced that the South Holland Hurricane Katrina effort will continue through the end of September. Residents are encouraged to drop off non-perishable goods and supplies at the South Holland Community Center where storage pods are set up in the parking lot. Volunteers are on hand to assist with donated items. The annual Diversity Dinners event will be held on October 15. The goal of the dinners is to encourage neighborly discussions and build new friendships among residents.
The week of October 9 through October 15 is Fire Prevention Week. This year's theme is "Use Candles With Care." The week will be highlighted by the 10th Annual Parade of Lights on October 11, which will immediately follow the memorial service at Thorn Creek Church, 1875 E 170th Street, at 7:00pm.
Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that new playground equipment has been installed at Tee Pee and Pow Wow parks. New equipment will also be installed at DeYoungs Grove, Vollbrecht, and Veterans Memorial parks.
The annual Harvest Fest for South Holland children ages 3 to 12 years will be held at the Community Center on Thursday, October 27 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Registration began September 19 at the Community Center. As space is limited, residents are encouraged to sign up early.
The Parks and Recreation Department is looking to expand its dance programs. If you or someone you know is an experienced instructor and interested in teaching a class, please call Ed Stewart or Cindy Copenhaver at the Community Center, 331-2940.
Public Works
Trustee James read a letter from a resident, commending Frank Knittle for his role in the recent street repaving in her neighborhood.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-1022 through 2005-1073, representing $241,465 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are office build-outs for ACL Labs and Dr. Valia in the LaSalle Office Park, a build-out at Ossama Hair Design, located within Pacesetter Plaza, and additional remodeling at Allen Automotive on Sibley.
Other Notables:
Pastor Alfonzo Surrett from Calvary Reformed Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved an IDOT I-94 Joint Agreement and Resolution to upgrade a fence along the bridge that will be revamped on Prince Drive.
The Board approved a motion to rescind a resolution passed on September 6 referred to as the first amendment to the Route 6 / South Park TIF. In addition, the Board passed a new resolution named the second amendment to the TIF district calling for a public hearing on November 21 for the expansion of the TIF.
The Board approved a zoning amendment to change property around 220 E 168th Street from light industrial to single family residential.
The Board approved a resolution supporting the renaming of the Lincoln Oasis to "South Holland Oasis".
The Board approved Register No. 518 for $1,684,959.26, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
