based on the August 15, 2005 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on
Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced that the Lions Club and the South Holland Municipal Band will jointly sponsor an ice cream social on Thursday, August 25, at 7:00pm in Veterans Park.

Come out for the annual Heritage Festival, September 1 - 5.  Visit the Gallery of Art at the Community Center from Thursday, September 1 thru Saturday, September 3.

Residents are invited to enjoy a fun-filled day in Veterans Park on Saturday, September 3, including the annual Car Show and Swap Meet, Bocce Tournament, Kid's Garage Sale, Mr. D's Magic Show, Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Climbing Wall, Giant Slide, and the Jesse White Tumblers.  Also on Saturday, beginning at 5:30pm, is South Holland's Largest Block Party at 160th Place between South Park Avenue and School Street.

The South Holland Ministerial Association will host the Worship, Prayer, and Music Celebration on Sunday, September 4 at 6:00pm at Veterans Park, with guest speaker Heino Blaauw, Pastor of First Reformed Church.  Labor Day festivities culminate on Monday, September 5 with the Heritage Paarlberg Fest at Paarlberg Park at 172nd and Paxton Avenue.

Parks and Recreation

Trustee Bennett announced that fall program registration for South Holland residents will take place at the Community Center Thursday, August 25 and the morning of Friday, August 26.  Open registration for the general public will be held from the afternoon of Friday, August 26 to Saturday, August 27.  Most programs will begin the week of September 12.

The Park Maintenance staff is working diligently to get the parks ready for the Heritage Festival and South Holland's Largest Block Party planned for the Labor Day weekend.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0860 through 2005-0922, representing $551,000 of investment in the community.  Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are interior and exterior remodeling for Popeyes, remodeling for Radio Shack, interior remodeling for U.S. Express Trucking (U.S. Mail), and signage for the LaSalle Office Park.

Other Notables:

Reverend Heino Blaauw from First Reformed Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved resolutions authorizing the submission of Cook County Community Development Block Grant applications.  These grants are for dollars to cover the expense of demolition of Village-owned properties for the redevelopment of Town Center.

The Board approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of properties at 231 and 247 East 161st Place as part of the new Town Center redevelopment.

The Board approved Register No. 515 for $1,155,814.43, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Trustee James announced that the railroad crossing at 168th Street and South Park Avenue will be closed and reconstructed September 12 - 16.  There will be detour signs posted to re-route motorists.

Trustee James announced that Frank Knittle and the Public Works Department received a commendation from Calvin Christian School for responding promptly to a request to repair a broken sewer and the efforts made to ensure the highest standard of safety for the children, educators, and parents.
