Information in this newsletter is intended only to highlight some of the activities of the Village Board,
based on the August 1, 2005 meeting.

Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on
Monday, August 15, 2005 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Village Board President, Don A DeGraff, presented Frank E. Knittle with a plaque honoring his 14 years of service to the Board.  Knittle is now the Director of Community Development and Public Works.

Trustee Mathew James was sworn in to service by Village Attorney, John Hiskes.  James will server as Chairman of the Public Works Commission, a post previously held by Frank Knittle.

Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced that the remaining performances of the South Holland Municipal Band are Thursday, August 25 at Veterans Park, and Monday, September 5 at Paarlberg Farm.

Mark your calendars for the annual Heritage Festival!  Thursday, September 1 through Monday, September 5.  Featured activities include: Gallery of Art at the Community Center; the annual Car Show, bocce tournament, fun games and great food in Veterans Park; South Holland's Largest Block Party; Worship Service in Veterans Park, presented by the South Holland Ministerial Association; and Paarlberg Fest at Paarlberg Farm, hosted by the South Holland Historical Society.

Finance

The Board approved Register No. 513 for $879,312.28 and No. 514 for $313,287.27, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0790 through 2005-0859, representing $266,849 of investment in the community.  Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, is enhanced exterior lighting for Royal Ford.

Other Notables:

Trustee DeYoung opened the meeting with prayer.

Ted VerHaar, a 22-year member of the Fire and Police Commission, retired as a Commissioner.

The Board approved the appointment of Dr. John Magon as a Fire and Police Commissioner.

The Board approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of properties at 16055 and 16056 South Park Avenue, and 16073 and 16075 Park Plaza, as part of the new Town Center redevelopment.

The Board approved a resolution of support for an Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) grant application to support the cost of the construction of a pedestrian bridge over the Cal-Union drainage ditch which runs between State Street Center and College Park.

The Board approved a Class 6B Resolution for CPR LTD., a new business within the community.

Trustee Chambers announced that after August 1, residents who have not purchased a vehicle sticker may be subject to citation.

The Board authorized the hiring of a police officer from the eligibility list to fill a vacancy.
