based on the July 18, 2005 meeting.

Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.

New Trustee Appointed

The Village Board accepted Trustee Frank Knittle's resignation from the Board, and unanimously approved the appointment of Knittle to the position of Director of Community Development and Public Works. The Board then unanimously approved the appointment of Mathew James as the new Village Trustee. James, who is Principal of Calvary Academy, has lived in South Holland since 1990. He replaces Knittle, who served on the Board for 14 years. |
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn encouraged residents to join in on the upcoming Annual Heritage Festival, September 1 through September 5. The event will be launched with the Annual Gallery of Art at the Community Center, September 1 - 3, followed by the "Saturday in the Park" event on Saturday, September 3 which includes a car show, swap meet, kids garage sale and more, followed by the Worship Service sponsored by the South Holland Ministerial Association on Sunday, September 4, and culminating with the Paarlberg Fest on Monday, September 5.
The next blood drive will be held on August 4 at the Village Hall, from 4:00 to 8:00pm.

Parks and Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that tickets for the South Holland Night at the Gary Railcats baseball game against the Kansas City T-Bones are now on sale at the Community Center. The game is Wednesday, August 3, at 7:30pm. Tickets are $26 each and include an all-you-can-eat ballpark buffet (hotdogs, hamburgers, salad, dessert, and soft drinks), reserved seating at the suite level party decks, and free parking. Mayor De Graff will throw out the first pitch, and his son, Kurt, will sing the National Anthem.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0724 through 2005-0789, representing $488,400 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are a backup generator for Rest Haven South, building upgrades for Animated Manufacturing, and permits for various improvements related to roofs and driveways. The total investment in the community so far this calendar year is $10,659,000.
Other Notables:
Pastor Ronald Kelley from Calvary Reformed Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved Register No. 512 for $1,039,922.03, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
The Board approved resolutions authorizing the purchase of properties at 412 E 160th Place, 422 E 160th Place, and 251 E 161st Place as part of the Town Center redevelopment.
The Board approved a resolution adopting the 2005-2006 Appropriation Ordinance.
The Board approved a request to hire four officers from the eligibility list to fill vacancies within the Police Department.
Trustee Knittle announced that the street resurfacing project is approximately 27 percent completed to date. The project includes 15 miles to be completed this summer, and 10 miles next summer.
