based on the June 20, 2005 meeting.

Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on
Tuesday July 5, 2005 at 8:00PM at Village Hall.


Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn invited residents to come out and enjoy a full day of activities at the 72nd Annual Independence Day Celebration, to be held on Monday, July 4 in Veterans Memorial Park.  The fireworks display will begin at 9:30pm.  The outdoor worship service, sponsored by the South Holland Ministerial Association, will be held on Sunday, July 3 at 6:00pm.  In case of rain, the worship service will be held at First Reformed Church, 15924 South park Avenue.

Rest Have/Holland Home will host outdoor entertainment every Thursday evening beginning July 7 through August 4 on the lawn of the Holland Home, 16300 Louis Avenue.  Refreshments will be served beginning at 7:30pm, with a classic movie featured at dusk.  For a list of featured movies, visit Rest Haven's website: http://www.resthaven.com 

On July 21 and August 4, the South Holland Municipal Band will perform at 7:00pm on the lawn at the Holland Home, instead of Veterans Park as originally scheduled.

Vehicle stickers and dog licenses are on sale at the Village Hall.  Residents who purchase a sticker after August 1 will pay a 50% late fee.

Attorney's Report

The Board approved an amendment to the current Noise Ordinance to state that disturbances that can be heard more than 75 feet from a property, either house or car, is improper and subject to citation.  This amendment is designed to ensure a peaceful environment for all residents.

The Board approved the purchase of property at 265 E 161st Street as part of the new Town Center redevelopment project.

Public Works

Trustee Knittle announced that the Village will undergo major street improvements:  15 miles of street resurfacing this summer and 10 miles next summer.  He also reported that South Holland received national recognition in a recent set of case studies by the Association of State Floodplain Managers.  South Holland was named as one of 11 communities pursuing excellence in the area of floodplain management "without adversely affecting the property or rights of others".

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0540 through 2005-0637, representing $720,105 of investment in the community.  Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are fencing at the new South Holland Nissan dealership on Van Dam Road, expansion at Retriever in the Village Center, remodeling for Gear Wizard, and paving for a new tenant of Prologis, located at 170th and 171st & Wallace.

Other Notables:

Reverend Dr. Carl King from Christ Community Church opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved a resolution honoring Warren "Butch" DeGraff, now retiring after 36 years of dedicated and exceptional service to the Village of South Holland as a police officer and later as the Director of Planning, Development & Code Enforcement.

The Board approved Register No. 509 for $1,126,491.52, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board awarded the contract for a new traffic signal at Route 6 and Wausau to low bidder Hawk Enterprises, Inc.

Trustee Bennett announced that the Sheriff's Department SWAP team is cleaning along the Little Calumet River at Riverview Park.  Parks and Recreation summer programs have all begun and are going very well with over 1,200 people participating this summer.  New baby swings will be installed at several parks soon.
