Village Board,
based on the June 6, 2005 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on June 20, 2005 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn announced that vehicle stickers and dog licenses are now available for sale at Village Hall. A fifty percent late fee will be charged for vehicle stickers after August 1.
Independence Day festivities will be held on Monday, July 4 at Veterans Memorial Park. Rib Fest Cook-Off applications for the event are available in the latest edition of the South Holland Today and at the Village Hall. The deadline for entries for the Heritage Festival's Gallery of Art is July 31. The Gallery will be open to the public September 1 - 3.
The South Holland Municipal Band season was launched during the Memorial Day Parade and will continue throughout the summer. The band's schedule is available at the Village Hall and on the Village website. Trustee Doorn encouraged residents to check the cable station message boards for all of the various events happening in the Village (Comcast Channel 4 and Wide Open West Channel 6 for Public Access; Comcast Channel 14 and Wide Open West Channel 19 for Parks & Rec, Library, and Religious boards).

ublic SafetyTrustee Chambers announced that on June 20, the Village Board will be voting to amend the Noise Ordinance to strengthen penalties and fines and to increase enforcement of loud music. Once the amendment has been approved, there will be signs posted throughout the Village to make visitors and residents aware that South Holland Police write tickets for loud music.
Parks & Recreation
The Parks and Recreation Department thanked all who participated in and assisted with the Memorial Day Parade. It was a wonderful day enjoyed by all. There were 56 entries in the parade. Eight awards were given for floats, marching bands, motor and walking units, the Best Carriage, and the Mayor's Trophy Award, which went to Spirit of God Fellowship Church.
Summer Programs start the weeks of June 6 and June 13. If you missed registration, there are still openings for some classes at the Community Center.
The Annual Kid's Fishing Derby was held June 4, with more than 40 children participating in the event. The largest fish caught was a 10 inch catfish by Alvy Butler (4-9 age group) and Dean Brummel (10-16 age group).
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0439 through 2005-0539, representing $739,510 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are signage for a the new T-Mobile in State Street Center, three new businesses in the build-out for Klos Trucking, new offices for Walt's warehouse, banners and brackets for Royal Ford, siding for the South Holland Car Wash at 154th Street and South Park Avenue, paving for Gibraltar Chemical, roofing for Chicago-Wilcox Manufacturing, and a vacuum pump building for Carl Buddig.
Other Notables:
Reverend Mel DeVries from First Reformed Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved Register No. 507 for $480,484.17 and No. 508 for $1,359,465.74, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
The Board approved the adoption of the 2005 Prevailing Wage Ordinance, and the 2005 Salary Ordinance.
To enhance public safety, the board approved an amendment to the Motor Vehicle and Traffic Ordinance, prohibiting the use of unlicensed motorized devices on public property. The amended law bars such devices as motorbikes, go carts, motor scooters, and mini-bikes from Village streets and sidewalks, alleys, parks, or schools.
The Board approved a motion authorizing Kane McKenna to conduct a feasibility study regarding the expansion of the Route 6 TIF District.
The Board awarded contracts to the low bidders for the 2005 Street Resurfacing Project. Concrete replacement contracts were awarded to J & J Newell Concrete totaling $1.7 Million, and the paving contract was awarded to Gallagher Asphalt, totaling $3.7 Million.
