Village Board,
based on the May 16, 2005 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on June 6, 2005 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Student Government Day
Twenty middle school students representing six area public and private schools, as well as the Christian Home Educators of the South Suburbs, made their presentations for Student Government Day. Following the regular meeting, the students were presented with plaques of participation and were treated to a reception.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn announced that Take a Bite Out of Grime, held on Saturday, May 14, was a success. She thanked the residents of South Holland for their hard work to make it possible. The Area 7 Special Olympics event was also held Saturday, May 14 at Thornwood High School. It was an inspiration to all who witnessed the courage and enthusiasm of the athletes. All residents were encouraged to support the Police Department fundraiser for the Special Olympics at Dunkin Donuts on Friday, May 20 from 6am to 4pm.
The next community blood drive will be held on Sunday, June 5 at St. Jude's Church, 880 E 154th Street, from 8:00am to 12:30pm.
Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett reminded residents of the Memorial Tree Fund, a way for residents to support the Parks and Recreation Department and plant a tree in one of South Holland's parks in honor of a loved one. Residents can also donate $300 to the Tree of Life Fund. An engraved leaf would be added to the Tree of Life in the lobby of the Community Center in recognition of residents generous contributions.
Engineer's Report
One concrete replacement bid was received on May 11, 2005. The Village Engineer recommended that the board reject the bid and send the contract back out to re-bid.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0348 through 2005-0438, representing $485,517 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are signage for a new women's apparel store in Village Center and Allison Haggerty Buick/Pontiac/GMC, a lawn irrigation system installed at First National and Providence Banks, sidewalk replacement for Pacesetter Plaza, new blacktop at Thornwood Plaza, office remodeling for Renal Care Group on South park Avenue, and roof work for Girard Fastener.
Other Notables:
Mayor Don De Graff opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved the sale of an $8 Million General Obligation Bond for street improvements.
The Board approved Register No. 506 for $1,019,897.02, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
A representative from Speer Financial was present to announce and commend the Village on achieving a higher credit rating as the well-respected Moody's Investor's Service raised the Village's credit rating from A3 to A2. The credit rating is in recognition of the Village's strong fiscal management and continuous efforts to keep finances on the right track.
The Board approved the purchase of three properties on East 160th Place as part of the Town Center redevelopment project.
The Board approved a Code Amendment to establish a fifth zoning district for the Town Center, which includes new design guidelines and the master plan.
The Board authorized the sale of three dump trucks from the Public Works Department.
