Village Board,
based on the April 18, 2005 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on May 2, 2005 at 8:00PM
at Village Hall.
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn announced that the South Holland Business Association is hosting a "Get Financially Fit" Financial Expo on April 28 from 4pm to 7pm at the Community Center. Come and meet South Holland businesses that specialize in assisting residents to make sound financial investments.
Mayor Don A. De Graff will be the featured speaker at the Annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on May 5 at 7:30am. The event is being sponsored by the South Holland Ministerial Association and hosted by Pastor John Sullivan at Spirit of God Fellowship Hall located at 16350 State Street. All residents are encouraged to attend.
The Annual Celebration of Education will be held in conjunction with the South Holland Lions Club Pancake Day in the Thornwood High School cafeteria on May 7 from 6:30am to 1:00pm. South Holland schools will showcase educational excellence through innovative and informative displays for parents and children. Tickets for the Pancake Day, which are available from Lions Club members and at the door, are $5. Kids 4 and under are FREE!
Come out and join fellow residents to "Take a Bite Out of Grime" on May 14 beginning at 8:30am. The 10th Annual Cleanup Day participants will plant a tree with the Village Arborist and go out in teams to create a cleaner and safer South Holland. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served. Please call 210-2904 to volunteer.
Village President Don A. De Graff and the Board of Trustees have declared May 14 as Arbor Day in the Village of South Holland.
Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the Annual Memorial Day Parade will be held Monday, May 30. Please contact Ed Stewart at 331-2940 for details on how to sign up for the parade. There are also applications for Village residents who wish to participate in the Parade in the April issue of South Holland Today.
The Summer Recreation Program Book will be mailed to South Holland residents the second week of May.
Advanced Ground Care Products of South Holland has graciously donated 600 cubic feet of rubber playground mulch for the Riverview Park area. Laren Montessori School of South Holland donated a truck load of playground wood chips for the Saturn Playground at Municipal Park.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0208 through 2005-0277, representing $810,000 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, is a billboard for the new South Holland Nissan, the Nurturing Developmental Learning Center's total renovation of the old Baker's Square, and a 2,000 square foot addition to Best Built Fabricating, its fourth recent addition. There is also one new home valued at $250,000 and 2 possible flood proofing rebates - 5 were paid in March.
Other Notables:
Rev. Jeanne Kumbalek from United Presbyterian Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved Register No. 504 for $1,047,944.31, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
The Board approved a Volume Cap Resolution to code $500,000 to the Illinois Housing Authority for its first-time homebuyers program and $1,250,000 to the Finance Authority for southland projects.
The Board approved a motion for the yearly transfer of funds within the Village.
The Board approved a Sign Variance for 162nd and LaSalle upon the recommendation of the Planning Commission.
The Board approved a resolution to allow street closing on South Park Avenue from 158th Street to 170th Street for the Memorial Day Parade to be held on May 30.
Trustee Chambers commended the 24 firefighters and six police officers who raised $10,415 for childhood cancer research.
Village Engineer Aaron Fundich announced that the Village will conduct major resurfacing of 25 miles of residential streets this year.
