Village Board,
based on the April 4, 2005 meeting.
Residents desiring to see a complete record of the Village Board meetings can request
copies of the meeting minutes from the Village Clerk's office in the Municipal building.

Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on April 18, 2005 at 8:00PM
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn announced that April 11 through April 16 is National Library Week. The South Holland Public Library has a host of activities planned for residents that can be found in the April issue of South Holland Today and on the Library's website at http://www.southhollandlibrary.org
Come out to the next Mayor's Coffee on Tuesday, April 12 at 7:00pm at the Community Center. Representatives from ComEd will be on hand to discuss reliability issues in the Village. This will be a unique opportunity for an open dialogue with ComEd representatives and Mayor Don A. De Graff.
The South Holland Business Association will host a "Get Financially Fit" Financial Expo on April 28 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Community Center. Come and meet South Holland businesses that specialize in assisting residents to make sound financial investments.
The South Holland Ministerial Association is sponsoring it's annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on May 5 at 7:30am. The event is being hosted by Dr. John Sullivan at Spirit of God Fellowship Hall located at 16350 State Street. Mayor Don A. De Graff will be the guest speaker. All residents are encouraged to attend.
The Annual Celebration of Education will be held in conjunction with the South Holland Lions Pancake Day on May 7 at Thornwood High School cafeteria, 6:30am to 1:00pm. Themed "Proud Legacy...Promising Future", South Holland schools will showcase educational excellence and provide information to parents and children. Tickets for Pancake Day, which are available from Lions Club members and at the door, are $5 per person; children 4 and under eat free.
Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that South Holland has been recognized as a "Tree City USA" for the fourth consecutive year. He thanked the Village Arborist, Dave Gouwens, who was instrumental in South Holland receiving this honor.
A reminder for residents that all parks within the Village close at dusk during the spring and summer months.
Applications for Village residents who wish to participate in the Memorial Day Parade are now available in the April issue of South Holland Today.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0164 through 2005-0207, representing $1,222,526 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, is Cavo Communications, a business that will bring in 60 new jobs. There are also permits for signs for two new businesses, Exclusive Nail & Hair Salon in Thornwood Plaza, and Nicky's King Gyros, and new signs for the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.
Other Notables:
Holland Hone Chaplain Hank Elgersma opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board approved Register No. 502 for $565,583.22 and No. 503 for $125,782.25, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.
The Board approved a final plat of subdivision for a new residential development, "The Preserves of South Holland", pending final engineering review.
Dale TerHaar, Chairman of the Flood Liaison Committee, submitted to the Board the Annual Status Report of the Floodplain Management Plan.
A resident commended the Village for presenting information on House Bill/Senate Bill 750 during the Central Committee meeting held at the Community Center last Thursday (March 31). The resident expressed an interest in hearing from opponents of the bill as well.
