Board Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at Village Hall.

Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn encouraged all South Holland residents to attend the next Mayor's Coffee on Tuesday, April 12 at 7:00pm at the Community Center.  Representatives from ComEd will be on hand to discuss reliability issues in the Village.

The next blood drive will be held Monday, April 4 at Thorn Creek Church from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.  The complete schedule is on the Village website at www.southholland.org.

Trustee Doorn encouraged resudents to exercise their civic duty and vote April 5.  Poll are open from 6:00am to 7:00pm.

The Village of South Holland will present "Reshaping School Funding: Reducing the Tax Burdan of Property Owners - A Forum on House Bill 750" on Thursday, March 31 at 7:00pm at the Community Center.  Ralph Martire, Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, will present information on House Bill 750, a proposed school finance reform bill designed to offer property tax relief and increase school funding.

Parks & Recreation

Trustee Bennett commended the Parks & Recreation Department for a very successful Easter Egg Hunt event, in which more than 200 baskets were distributed to South Holland children.  He also acknowledged the generosity of South Holland businesses and organizations that donated Easter baskets.

The Second Annual South Holland Night with the Gary Railcats Baseball Team is scheduled for August 3.  Plan to attend and save the date.  Further details on the cost and when to purchase tickets are forthcoming in the Parks and Recreation Summer Booklet.

Beginning April 20, seniors will be able to socialize with friends, play games, and enjoy refreshments provided by Starbucks during the new Senior Social Connections program at the Community Center.  The activity will be held every first Wednesday of each month from 9:00 am to Noon, and also every third Wednesday of the month from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.  Details on the event are forthcoming at the Community Center and on Public Access television.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0132 through 2005-0163, representing $503,000 of investment in the community.  Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, is a swimming pool remodeling for the Best Western Hotel; signage at First National Bank of Illinois; signs for Clark Gas on Sibley and State; a new cell phone store, Talk is Cheap, located at 17106 South Park Avenue; and demolition of the interior of the old Bakers Square building on Sibley in preparation for remodeling for a new daycare center.

Other Notables:

Servant James McKinney III from Kingdom Ministries opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved Register No. 501 for $970,623.87, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

The Board approved an ordinance to vacate portions of LaSalle Street and Dearborn Street.

The Board approved an agreement to share with area municipalities legal fees for the PrimeCo litigation case.

The Board approved the transfer of a redevelopment agreement from Martino Buick Pontiac GMC to the new property owner, Alison Haggerty Pontiac Buick GMC.

The Board approved a 180 day option agreement for the former Knights Inn Motel on Halsted Street.
