Board
Meetings are usually held at 8 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month
at Village Hall.
The next meeting will take place on March 22, 2005 at 8:00PM
Community Coordination
Trustee Doorn encouraged residents to read the latest edition of South Holland Today, which provides information about a new public access talk show, "Between Five and Seven," and the open house for the new REVERSE 9-1-1 system on March 19 at the Community Center. The next Blood Drive will be held April 4 from 8:00am to 4:00pm at Thorn Creek Church, 1875 E 170th Street. Visit www.southholland.org for the complete season schedule.
Village Board President Don De Graff and Trustee Doorn stressed the importance of all residents attending the next Central Committee meeting on Thursday, March 31 at 7:00pm at the Community Center. Ralph Martire, Executive Director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, will be presenting information on House Bill 750, a proposed school finance reform bill designed to offer property tax relief and increase school funding. Representative David Miller will be in attendance and Senator James Meeks has been invited.
Parks & Recreation
Trustee Bennett announced that the Arthritis Foundation has certified the Community Center as a qualified site to provide Tai Chi and Aquatic Programs.
Public Safety
Trustee Chambers announced that the Fire Department will assist the St. Bladrick's Celebration to raise funds for the National Childhood Cancer Foundation. Businesses in town that post the largest donation or most pledges get to help shave the heads of firemen. For additional information, contact the Fire Department at 331-3123.
Community Development
The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0089 through 2005-0131, representing $3,427,369 of investment in the community. Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, is signage for South Holland Furs, Illiana Veterinary Hospital, and others. BP Amoco is building a 4,200 square foot store with a car wash and Wild Bean Cafe. Econolodge is updating its doors and windows and US Cellular is having antenna work completed at its site.

Rev. Heino Blaauw of First Reformed Church opened the meeting with prayer.
The Board appointed Andrew Johnson to the Park Advisory Board.
The Board approved Register No. 499 for $205,471.31 and Register No. 500 for $672,844.77, covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries. Trustee Veld commended the department heads for working within the budget, now that the fiscal year is 75% complete.
As the next phase of the I-80/94 construction begins, the northbound lane of Van Dam Road will be closed from 162nd Street to 170th Street for six months. The southbound lane will remain open to the Fire Department and other Emergency Vehicles, as well as local businesses.
The Board appointed Ken Pilota as Special Counsel to pursue a no-cash bid on tax delinquent property located at 16850 State Street.
Trustee Bennett announced that the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on March 19 at 10:00am at Veterans Park, rain or shine.
Trustee Chambers announced that the Fire Department received a letter of commendation from a resident who needed assistance recently. She was very impressed with the department's professionalism, care, and timeliness in response to her call.
