Trustee Doorn encouraged all residents to come out and enjoy Wonderfully Designed: An Exhibition, Instruction and Education in African American Design and its History.  The event is a celebration of contemporary African American art and design and will be held February 11 - 20 at First Reformed Church located at 15924 South Park Avenue.  Wonderfully Designed will feature artists from the Organization of Black Designers - Chicago Chapter and OSMOSIS Education/Mentoring Initiative.  Call First Reformed Church of South Holland at 333-0622 for more information.

The South Holland Historical Society will present a history on the Robbins Airport on Tuesday, February 15 at 7:30pm at Village Hall.

Parks & Recreation

Trustee Bennett informed residents of five new pieces of exercise equipment and three pieces of training equipment that are now installed in the Fitness Center.  A DVD unit will be installed to enhance the overhead projection system in the large conference room at the Community Center.  Users of the system will be able to present information using a VCR, DVD player, or computer.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held March 19 in Veterans Park for children ages 1 through 10.  South Holland businesses who are interested in supporting the Easter Egg Hunt may supply baskets or donate $10 towards each basket they would like donated in their name.  The deadline to donate baskets is March 7.  All monies donated toward baskets must be given by March 14.  Last year more than 200 children participated in this exciting event, and a huge turnout is expected this year.

Public Safety Report

President De Graff offered condolences on behalf of the Village Board to the family of the grandmother and great-granddaughter who perished in a fire at their home on East 155th Street.  Trustee Chambers acknowledged the contributions and support of Calumet City, Dolton, Harvey, Lansing, and Thornton Fire Departments during the tragedy.

The Board approved a request to hire two officers off of the eligibility list to fill vacancies within the Police Department.

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2005-0032 through 2005-0057, representing $355,755 of investment in the community.  Included in those permits, according to Trustee De Young, are signs for the new Thomas Nissan on Van Dam Road, an office build-out for a new tenant of Verhagen Roofing, and new signage with message center for Providence Bank in the Village Center.
