based on the June 7, 2004 meeting.

New Village Appointments

Village President, Don A. De Graff, appointed Ed Stewart as a new Parks Department Deputy Director of Recreational Services as the result of the upcoming retirement of Superintendent of Recreation Chip Sobek.  Ed previously served as Recreation Center Manager for the Peoria, Illinois Park District.  He brings valuable leadership experience in the areas of recreational programming, facility operations, budget preparations and long-range planning.

Community Coordination

Trustee Doorn announced that 2004-2005 vehicle stickers and dog licenses are now available at the Village Hall.  A fifty-percent late fee will be charged after August 1.

Come out to enjoy games, food, entertainment and the best fireworks display in the southern suburbs at the annual Fourth of July Celebration on Monday, July 5 at Veterans Memorial Park.  Applications for the Ribfest Cook-Off are new available at the Village Hall.  The deadline to enter is June 19 at 12 noon.

Public Works

Trustee Knittle reported that the Thornton Diversion Tunnel prevented potential flooding into surrounding homes due to its diversion of 65 million gallson of water from Thorn Creek during recent rains.  Also, the painting of the water tower is now completed.  Landscape quality wood chips are free to the public and available through Public Works.  Interested residents should call 339-2323.

Community Development

The Board approved Building Permits No. 2004-412 through 2004-512 representing $6.5 Million of investment in the community.  Included in those permits, according to Trustee DeYoung, is work at Overnight Transport, POPCO (parent company of Ed Miniat), the LaSalle Street property, and 4 new homes in the Morningside subdivision valued at $425,000 each.

Other Notables:

Pastor Georgina Ayala from Life Builders International opened the meeting with prayer.

The Board approved a Class 8 designation for the GMB Citgo at 170th and South Park which will also have a carwash and a convenience store.

The Board approved a Class 6 designation for Carl Buddig's 6th expansion for a 10,000 square foot building to be used for freezer storage.  The expansion is valued at $1,000,000 and will bring an estimated 80 jobs to South Holland.

The Board approved Register No. 472 in the amount of $42,760.11 and Register No. 473 in the amount of $1,106,872.21 covering day-to-day operations, vendor payments, and salaries.

Trustee Bennett announced that the recent Fishing Derby and Memorial Day Parade were both tremendous successes.
